Oh, reminds me; Audi A4 (B5) 1.8T Quattro. Reason being that there were some Swedish and Norwegian tuners who tuned the guts out of them (400-600 hp). Some of them with a clean body kit also looked nice (still think they do). "150 hp, but 200 hp with a chip?" was tempting...

Peugoet 605.

My dad had an old (even for then) 505 saloon and was invited to a dealership for the 605 launch. We only went because they promised some freebies, but I got the brochure and was hooked. Thought it was the smartest thing ever.

I was 10 I think.

I really wanted a 2005 Honda Accord 2.2 diesel a few years back.

Researched for months, always noticed them on the road, and got a pay rise at work so had the means.

Tool one for a test drive, killed the idea completely.

Bought an mx-5 two weeks later wink

When I was 10 or 11 I had a Talbot fetish . . . . . . . Dear me!!!!! What utter ste, but suspect I had a soft spot for the T logo rather than the actual cars themselves.

Also the first Bluebird ZX Turbo was firmly on my wish list. My old man had a succession of Bluebirds and IMHO they were seriously under rated and un-ncecessarily slagged off.

Oh - and one my own fave cars? Wait for it . . . . .

1990 Nissan Sunny 1.4LS. That wee 1.4 12 valve engine was just a wee sweetie, and I was the only one in my circle of pals with leccy windaes . . . . . . This wee sweetie took me from St Andrews to back home in Bishopbriggs (70 miles) in 55 mins with my pissed mate sleeping in the passenger seat. We had to get back in time for the pub opening . . . . . .
Joint fave came a few years later in the shape of a 1991 Primera 2.0eZX (GT latterly) which was just a brilliant car full stop. Drove every bit as well as my 156 a few years later - in many respects better - but built better and without the looks or feelgood factor of the 156

For some weird reason I kind of want an old MK4 Escort.
Yup, I'm mad.
I've always had a thing about the indicator/wiper stalks on those.

When I was in my early twenties, I didn't own a car - used to cycle to work.
Local garage sold Yugo's - the Yugo 45 got quite tempting one winter.
Sanity prevailed!

Great thread... Like others, I really pined for a Scorpio (something about the Ultima spec level just seemed so cool when I was 12!) and the S60 (I had even talked my way out of the T5 for economy reasons - shall I hand my PH badge in now?!).

I also had a deep craving for an IS200. Thought these were the dogs danglies when first launched.

Land Rover Freelander.

I liked Land Rovers and the Freelander came out when I was seven. I thought it was brilliant - very modern and cool. I eventually persuaded the parents to buy one when I was in secondary school and it became my first car.

I learnt to drive in one, it should have had a 1.4 engine but was fitted with a 1.3 instead, a really early model. Original factory engine though, thats how it left the production line. I really loved driving it, used to take it anywhere and everywhere. But it definitely wasnt going to get me into much trouble

Not quite so boring over here compared to the States, but one of my neighbours had a Chevy C/K or Silverado pick up. Used to think that was absolutely amazing.

Also whenever I used to draw cars I always put tri-spoke alloys on them. yuck

Overlooking the fizzy tin that's wrapped around it, the running gear is by Steyr(I think some were assembled by them as well) and works really well.

About 12 years ago Dad was about to get a new Freelander as a company car, I pleaded with him to get a Disco instead but he said the budget wouldnt stretch. Fast forward 12 years and now I'm driving one myself as a budget(ish) 4x4 hack. Funny how times change!

When I first passed my test I fancied a Citroen 2CV.

I figured a four door convertible would be fun... Never got one smile

As a kid I used to like the Bobby Ewing Mercedes sl (this was before Dallas, but I don't know the Merc classification for them).

I must admit I still quite like the way they look. The later cars seem to lack the elegance of those. They're either slab sided ' loadsamoney' wagons or apeing f1 cars...

For me, most of whats already been mentioned - Senator (or Carlton GSi 3000), Granada Scorpio. My Dad had a mk1 Orion 1.6i Ghia, when I passed my test I drove it and thought it was great, but I prefered the mk2. Almost paid 4k for a white one back in the day, glad I didn't!
