996 Turbo without a doubt, preferably in Guards Red.

The 996 Turbo is no doubt the faster point to point vehicle, but the M3 has a better interior, is more practical, will cost less to run, has better throttle response, sounds better, and perhaps controversially, is a better drivers car.
+1000

Judging by the response, I guess it all comes down to personal preference and maybe OP knows the right answer only himself.

I probably should have stated practicality isn't a consideration.
In that case, has to be the Porsche. It'd have to be something rather serious (or superbike) to beat it for performance.

Maybe on the bendy bits, but no chance on the straight bits I shouldn't have thought.

One is a Porsche 911

The other a mass-produced BMW in top-spec

No argument in my head...911 all day long.

Not really a fair comparison if it's modified though... unless you also had a 600bhp modified 911.

Can you not push the Turbo up to 750bhp ? Seriously rapid.

I've had the pleasure of driving a standard one flat out loved it was hugely fast everywhere in te rev range I can only imagine what a 600bhp version of the 996tt would be like.
Anyone near berks???

You can, but it will be north of 30.000 £. 550-600 hp can be achieved by a ECU remap and complete aftermarket exhaust system, so that's what most people choose...
Strip the car down and you'll probably humiliate 997 GT2 RS'.

Come to think about it, it really is a supercar bargain.

996tt is seriously quick and feels like it has a heck of a lot more oomph than just420 HP.

Tangled with one on the road on my Aprilia once.....bit more wary now. Proper quick car.

get the 996tt get it remapped and the m3 would look like it had the handbrake on ive had 2 and they are very rapid point to point cars :-)
And add a supercharger to the E90 M3 (600 hp) and you will start pissing off supercar owners...

I would rather have the Porsche , when i see them parked up they allways look far more attractive than they do in photo's.
