It's a sad reflection of the society we live in today where doing this could get you into a whole world of pain.
You know I've never even considered that!Quite often there are parents around and they too want a look/sit...... And often rather like it if I start her up too.....

Does ownership of a good car somehow put a person in subjection to others?
Yes it does. Why would you buy a such a car if you didn't want any attention? The whole point of that kind of car is the show and pantomime involved. Surely if you are a true petrol head you appreciate any car for what it is and not for what it says about you?

Or maybe you like them and are lucky enough to afford one. It's probably those that cannot afford them that think like that.

A Lamborghini is the least subtle car I can think of. Its whole purpose is to be loud and showy, yet as an owner you want to be discrete? I don't get it. Surely if you are a true petrol head you appreciate any car for what it is and not for what it says about you?

He may have bought it to attract 20yr old girls rather than kids - refreshing approach in this age.
Without knowing the circumstances its hard to say. He could have been running late, just had bad news or anything like that. A lad about 7 asked if i would take him for a spin in my mr2 to which i declined. I said if you come back with one of your parents then fine but im not taking the risk.
I put my love of cars down to some people who let me sit in / admire / explore them as a kid.
A 20 foot long pink Cadillac convertible, a Bentley Continental R (brand new, god it smelt awesome), and an Aston Vantage V600.
I think it's part of the ownership experience, being able to make someone's day/month.

If it was me i would of let the kid have a sit in as long as i was not in a hurry, i attend lots of car shows and openly encourage the kids to sit in my car, there is nothing better than seeing some big beaming smiles and parents thanking you, i also hope now and then the kids walk away thinking/dreaming that one day they will be in that position.
This morning at Malton was the same!!!!!!!

Came back to my rx7 once to see a man and his approx 6 year old son standing next to it. Asked him if the kid wanted to sit in it and rev the engine. Little blighter bounced it off the limiter! Still from the look on his face it made his day.
Also had several people come up to look/sit in my imprezas, theyre hardly exoctic but they seemed to like them. Most of them I offered to take for a quick blat up and down the road, which they enjoyed

On holiday in Spain in September and I let two young Spanish boys sit in my Tuscan while their Dad took photo's. Didnt cost me anything to put big smiles on their faces.
On the otherhand, if I was in a hurry and had got in the car, engine running and ready to go, I may heve declined.
Circumstance doesnt mean you are a miserable SOB.
