Brilliant car. There's a lime green one around here with gold wheels which looks fantastic (better than you'd expect from a lime/gold colour combo anyway).
That'll be a V8-S then. They're very rare as they only built them for a year, i think. It should be a late Series 1, so on about W plate.'B973 SAD' don't often see the 'AD' area code identifier anymore. Was always one of the best for actually making real words, (and is was always fun to see if the word matched the driving style or driver, eg; MAD, BAD, SAD, DAD etc) always on the look out for them when on Holiday around the country, (infact my Dad and Step-mum seemed to have an encyclopaedic level knowledge when it came to these codes, what fun my holidays were).
Also to the car as well, great return for the PH Carpool, would vote if my stupid work computer would let me!

Never knew they did 140moh (previous post), cop ones that I knew never managed that much even without the roof lights.
I remember Motor & Autocar calling it a 'baby Aston' or 'junior Aston', probation referring more to the twin plenum model I guess.
Much underrated IMHO.
Well done!
Motor tested one in Jan 83 - it recorded a top speed af 135.4 on the Millbrook banking in 20mph winds. Maybe a few mph more on a long straight where you can discount the banking tyre scrub.I remember Motor & Autocar calling it a 'baby Aston' or 'junior Aston', probation referring more to the twin plenum model I guess.

Bear in mind the test car's speedo was over-reading by 5mph at a 100mph so I've no doubt the test car Motor had was showing well over 140 on the speedo on the banking at a true-ish 135
I remember when my father had one of these back in the day, moved from a 2.8 Capri to the Vitesse. We were HUGE Tricentrol/Trimoco BTCC fans and the Rovers started to mop up the Capri's when the Vitesse arrived so a great example of motorsport increasing sales! C700 UUE was my dads car, he was 2nd owner (BL were first) and it was a early car with lip rather than dam on the front and big Vitesse badge down side.
Great car, went like stink compared to cars of the day and some REALLY comfy seats too from what I remember.

I had the displeasure of driving the 2300 model, what a pile of Cak that was, V8 was the only engine for these, I could tell you the story about the the 3500S, the Police, the Plumber, 16 year old me and the Stripper, but, even 25 years later, hmm.
were you a candle stick maker?Love these, my dad picked me up from primary school the first day he got his, 3500 V8 in White with brown velour and the square wheel. Then it spent the next two years going back and forth from the garage finally being replaced by a rather more mundane but far more reliable Pug 504 7 seater.

I think the fact a French car was more reliable says all you need to know about these! don logan said:
In 1978 my Dad had a Ferrari 400, when this Rover came out I thought it was a new 4 door Ferrari because of the front lights! :-)
Yeah yeah, I know!
I always thought the Rover front was borrowed from the Ferrari 400 and not the Daytona.Yeah yeah, I know!
I do look at the Audi A5 (5 Door) and think SD1.
Someone did a photo shop of a new SD1 on here with the old 75 grill that looked amazing.
