Yep, it's between the gear stick and arm rest, under the driver's right arm. It even has that Blaupunkt equaliser + VU meters I posted earlier built-in! It's all a bit superfluous - surely Michael would just ask KITT to turn the volume down or change the station?

The winner for me is the Fiat Lombardi (OTAS) 820 Grand Prix, that had a complicated
name, but a simple layout. Let the driver drive.

Which car was marketed with a 4-speaker set-up, but in reality the radio fed the front two, and the separate cassette deck the rear two? Datsun/Nissan Bluebird?
Definitely the Bluebird. I had one. Fronts were radio, rears cassette.

Of course once I inherited it proper from my Grandad I ripped out all the wiring, put a brand new tape unit in (back when a CD player was still north of £300) and wired up all the speakers into one plug, then a bass cannon (for it was named so) in the boot. Loved that car.
Brilliant, so it is true! A bit of marketing spin any political party would be proud of biggrin

My Dads old BX had it right behind the gear still ala the Alfa (maybe the trend at the time) and you really had to reach in behind the gear lever to fiddle with the tiny Blaupunkt buttons (his 87'er didnt play tapes so he had it replaced_.

Definitely remember a car where the radio was behind the driver's shoulder, in the rear bulkhead. Can't remember what it was and can't find anything on Google either.

Doesn't this have two radios - one for the driver + front passenger and a second for the sprogs / grannies in the rear? Mad as a box of frogs that....
I had a stereo a few cars back that could play a cd/radio in the front and the opposite in the rear.

Oddly, we never did use that option.

Never mind where the stereo is. It appears to have a spatchcocked chicken in a hoop where the steering wheel should be.

Manta B

Not quite in the same vein but the manta had a din sized slot that was only 3" deep so the radio/cassette unit stuck out of the dash.

The Moris Ital had a curved din slot so no after market unit would fit

Wasn't a DIN slot then.

Couldn´t find a better picture from the interwebs, than the on on the Nick Fulcher profile.

Sadly not... check the photos, the Denver is completely different, Blaupunkt actually did 3 or 4 of these style of units, including one that had a complete analogue tuner on the gooseneck.

As you say, an ingeneous if somewhat visually challenged idea!
Blaupunkt Berlin. Somebody I used to work with had a W113 SL 'Pagoda' with one in it.

This was IDGG01 in about 2004:

Hinged cubby box and conventional awkward stereo location.

My first car was a Metro City - that didn't have a stereo at all. I had a "ghetto-blaster" on the passenger seat!

Top tip: When driving at the cars top speed on the A127, do not take your eyes off the road to turn the tape over because when you do look back up you'll discover that everything ahead of you has stopped and you haven't, otherwise you'll need new underwear and very nearly a long stay in hospital.

Because they needed the space where the radio should go for the wonderful gold plated 'Exclusive' badge on the centre console - just in case you are in any doubt as to what you are driving.

Loving the camels on the TV screen; because without them I never for one minute would have guessed that this car was made for the Middle East.

I'm not sure what's better, the location of the radio, or the sinclair spectrum inspired interior?

Am I the only one who could not be bothered to tether the aftermarket radio into the slot so that it would come flying out under certain conditions? boxedin

Ok clever clogs. But it would take a din sized unit if the corner was cut out.
