"My heavily modified mk1 Punto GT Cabriolet is up for sale its had a 1.4 GT engine transplant but has not been declared to the DVLA (never got round to doing it)."
All the usual concerns apply. Unlawful OTR and very probably very tricky to register. Best avoided.
The paperwork is the least of it troubles, have you seen it, just wow !

From the Land Rover Owners Club page on Facebook
Triggers broom, so, at what point is it classed a new car? how long between things being replaced does it have to be and who records this?

Top Lurking.

What does the law say on replacing most parts of a classic vehicle?
assuming everything is just a replacement and not radical alterations this would not apply?
https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/radically-...

if it's always been taxed and motd then the rest of these may not apply either?

In regards to some of these if it was cheap enough just rip the engine out and replace. All the harder work such as making it fit have been done, then just buy a engine you can prove its history of?

My mot tester wrote me a letter stating my engine swap in my 205 gti so hopefully now I can get it changed on the log book. (Dvla already rejected it once).
It has been insured properly and the tax band is the same since the engine swap but it will be nice to have the correct CC on the v5.

Keep us updated,

Have you went from a 1.9 to a 2.0 from a gti6? or from a 1.6 to a a.6 16v from a 106gti?

Indeed, the cut off for pre 2001 lower band vehicle tax is 1540cc, the 1.6 205 GTI is 1580cc so it is only just in the higher band, D'oh!

Whats the weight of the \V6 compared to the 1.9 lump? does it affect the handling much? more oversteer?

It is heavier, not absolutely sure by how much, I think my whole car is about 80kgs heavier than book on the mot weighbridge, but some of that will be in my wheels and not sure if the book figure is with fuel or not.
It certainly wouldn't handle as well as a 1.6 on a tight and twisty autotest track, but I don't get any understeer or oversteer, party because it still handles really well and partly because it's a road car and I don't drive it like that on the road!

Does not surprise me TBH. I think the reality of the requirements of the DVLA nowadays has caught many mods men in limbo. Used to be a pretty simple job but really is not simple any longer. I regularly see boidged kit cars through my contacts with kit car specislists which are simply not roadworthy, safe or correctly registered. They are grudually getting pulled but there are more coming on as this thread and others testify. Real caution is needed on looking at kit cars sadly because all can most certainly not be as it seems. Caveat Emptor must be the motto of prospective buyers; there are no easy routes to get a car legally registered without full history any more.
