Oh 100%, it's a very lovely thing, really nicely done. Don't like the gear lever personally but that's just nitpicking.

...It's just frustratingly annoying that someone has gone to *that* much effort and not correctly registered it.
perhaps they know something about the engine....

Or the chassis has been modified[1] and they know it'll need IVA and lose its registration!

The Starlet was at least RWD though.

[1] At the very least someone has taken a hammer to the bulkhead for clearance to the cylinder head.

1.4 Astra SXI converted to 2.0 VXR spec but still registered as a 1.4 for the £180+ cheaper road tax bracket.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314433695658

Clearly a high quality conversion when the last couple of MOT's have featured fails for missing wheel bolts and insecure battery.

Rover 100 Ascot now running a tuned 1.8 MGF engine - but still down as a 1.1 on the V5 to qualify for the cheaper pre '01, based on engine size, tax bracket, up to new owner whether they want to declare, etc.

Although it's currently fudged and not running - but evidently an easy fix if you believe the seller - i mean that must be true because he's desperate to point out in the ad that up until a few days ago it was still running perfectly fine laugh

1.0 petrol Skoda Citigo now running a 2.0 tdi engine & 4WD, but still down as the 1.0 petrol for the £20 tax rate obviously - not that it's been taxed for the last 2 years anyway.

It's interesting they don't hide it at all, are they just not aware it's legally dodgy to do that?

I've got no issue if you've got a smashed up car and decide to reshell it on the quiet for yourself, but surely you have to know it's now only really good for parts, and you can't sell it as that?

My experience with diesels is you need to change *MORE* often rather than less to keep it on the boil due to the miniscule width of the power...

That said, if you're in a race class that limits you by *power* (and particularly if its endurance racing) you can have a significant advantage.

It's simply that they're known for diesel modification and tuning, so of course that's what they'd choose to build.

I don't like how diesels drive, but I can understand why they did it.

The same thing with a proper engine would probably be a lot of fun.

Somebody who doesn't care about going quickly but does care about frugal track miles surely?

I think, but don't quote me on this, that it means he has the donor car as well and can show you that the engine came out of it, rather than from an unknown source?

I could be wrong though!

That's how I interpret it as well. And since there never was a 4-door E46 M3 I'm not sure it qualifies as ringing.
