This is so much nicer than last week's SOTW. Nice to see a coupe rather than another barge from the fatherland. I always liked these, refined, reliable daily runner that has reasonable handling and performance.

I wasnt talking in any way about the driving factor, just the looks of Honda's. And like I said, the NSX had all the right ingredients but still managed to look bland in comparisson. Put it next to a Lotus Esprit Turbo V8 made around the same time and it looks pathetic.
And why make a car like that, that has all the ambitions in the world of being a full blodied supercar and put a 3.0 V6 in it? You can get 3.0 V6's in a lot of family cars. It's just Honda and their boring reserved attitude to everything they do.
Are you high ?
Lol, obviously has driven an NSX to form such a reasoned opinion...

A worthy shed, definitely a step up on last weeks (what wouldn't have been).

On the Setright point, there is nothing I hate more than when people chuck a random French or Latin word into a sentence. It's just pretentiousness designed to make everyone realise how clever and intellectual you are. Some people just take the cultivation of that image to a whole new level and to me he was one of those people. I'd prefer read any of the journalists on here (even some of the posters).
Got to agree with that. "If you can't understand you're obviously not the right kind of person". Even more pretensious than the pillocks who write "methinks". As if writing a medieval word makes you look clever or funny.
Oh dear, what terrible posture you must both have with all those chips on your shoulders.

Thankfully, Honda didn't design their 4WS system - and LJKS didn't write his articles - for people like you.
Care to explain how not having time for pretetious people means you have a chip on your shoulder?

In fact would you care to explain any of your pathetic assertions? Or are you just a very dim keyboard warrior with delusions of grandeur.
Dim. Yeah, that'd be right. I don't speak a word of Latin, so mea culpa on that one.

Fact is, if Setright chose to express himself in that way then I'm happy to let him. And if I'm curious what he actually said, then I'll look it up. And experience suggests that the people who find the use of classical languages "pretentious" tend to have a massive chip on their shoulder about their own knowledge/education, and complain about it ad nauseam.

I had a 1991 Prelude 4WS from new and later replaced it with a brand new 1995 2.2 VTEC which I kept for 8 years. Both were superb cars.

But the 5th generation Prelude was a hideously ugly device.....

One of these was Becks first company car at Man Utd when he was coming through. I always fancied the Vtec one before this model with the electronic dash read out. It would have to be in a dark colour with the black leather though, as the cloth was appalling
Very much doubt it - he was a well established star by the time this shape was launched.

Maybe it was a MkIV.

I flirted with the idea of getting one of these recently, I actually like the styling... getmecoat . Anyway, the big problem is the insurance quotes were eye watering. MR2 is a much better option.

Can they not be had on classic? My Meganes on a classic policy

Glad you accept your dimness. Also enjoyed the total lack of evidence for your assertions. Apart from your "experience" ah how nice for you. I reckon my initial summation of you was pretty spot on.

4G Prelude was the one, which Honda then proceeded to remake as this Dullsville slab.

Actually, Honda seems to specialise in turning silk purses into sow's ears, a present example being the latest Civic.

Someone must like its looks I guess, but its still wearing that view-blocking plank across the rear window.

..this is a great shed...say £550 cash for this...eBay the spoiler and wheels (accord type r spoiler? £40.00, then sell the wheels and buy the original ones). So we are sitting at just over £500. Spend £200-300 on a full service + sort any niggles and then a full vallet. So for under your bag of sand you could get another 100k out if this, still be driving it when most of the other cars usually picked for this feature are coke cans...the fact it's not a Vti is great, it never would have been trashed. I love the styling by the way, it's just abit understated Japanese..IMO, best shed ever.

Mr Setright (rest in peace) banged on about the Honda Prelude in just about every article i read in Car magazine.

Now without disrespecting the laid to rest , why on earth did he find them so intoxicating?

I think it was something to do with the Bristols.

I still have a copy of the 1996 Top Gear TV review Jeremy Clarkson did of the ugly 5th generation Prelude. After commenting "You see, in my book, only one things matters when it comes to coupés..styling", whilst driving the 4th generation car, he goes on to say "This Prelude was just about the most handsome car I'd ever seen!".

Then he introduces the drab new model:

"This is the new Prelude. Oh dear, oh dear. Yes, the back seats are bigger. Yes, the boot can handle your infernal golf clubs. But the price you pay is catastrophic; were it not for those 'child in a horror movie' eyes, this is one bland looking car. A sensible jumper on a high fashion catwalk."

How right. Hideous thing. I kept my 4th generation M96VJO for a further 7 years, hoping that Honda would see sense and bring out a new version. But they didn't, so that was the last Honda I ever owned. Lovely car, I hope whoever bought it enjoyed it as much as I did.

Using LJKS's name to endorse this particular sheep-in-wolf's-clothing is nigh on blasphemous.
Agreed; the car does not seem to be the one that he was approving! Nonetheless it's good to see LJK's name on PH. He was a fine man as well as an outstanding motoring journalist. I wrote to him when I was converting to Judaism, seeking advice on managing the conflicts between orthodox life and active participation in the world at large. He was extremely helpful in many ways. Sadly missed.

Bought my mrs a 4th gen about 6 years ago, brilliant car and someone had thrown the entire set of options at it, if ot had been a manual i reckon we'd have had a contender for best speccd and most usable car we'd owned at the time.
