Ahh.. the Haters are out early today.
These are an excellent car and they give a small insight to the appreciation by LJKS.

Just because you don't like/feel inspired by a SOTW, doesn't mean it is cr*p. I think all avatars should display the posters age....
That would be telling

Honda's really are just boring.

I know everyone thinks the NSX is the holy embodiment of a vehicle, but to look at it's no more interesting than any other Honda.

It's like it had all the right ingredients to win the Great British Bake Off but managed to make a complete arse of it and end up with a bland tasteless cake you wouldnt even give a second look too.

Better than a Blazer!

I quite like the idea of Jap coupes even if they are a bit slow. The 90s were a crackign era for the coupe, after working at a Nissan dealership recently I couldnt imagine having a 100sx, 200sx, 300zx and (not sure any would have appeared at a main dealer mind)

Then there are the Hondas - (Prelude, Civic vtecs, NSX) Toyota - Celica, Supra Mitsubishi - FTO, GTO.

Compared to today - Nissan - 370z, GTR Toyota - GT86 Honda... Mitsubishi...

Liek it, nice change, decent enough shed, ok, not super fast but probably adequate and a little bit more, I suspect it is one of those sheds you cant easily kill.

yes Totally agree. Massive fan of Jap cars from the late 80s-90s. If I won the lottery I'd kit my garage out with a fleet of 10-20 year old Jap cars biggrin

As a ex-owner of a 4th Gen Prelude 2.2 Vtec, I have to say I rather miss that car.

Superb thing for long distance jaunts, and the 4WS makes it something even your wee granny could park. Most at home on a nice, flowing A road.

Biggest thing that annoyed me was how the car sometimes felt artificially pointy thanks to the 4WS - I suppose this is why many believe the JDM BB4 model with no 4WS is the one to go for.

Still, I can think of worse places to be than behind the wheel of a Prelude VTi, and can easily understand why the likes of Setright rated it so much.

Assuming that one's not completely knackered, it's astonishing value.

Absolutely right.

In fact, I've got it on my list to do an "mwstewart" on a 4th Gen Prelude biggrin

Can anyone tell me if the 4WS is the weak link? With the prospect of a repair costing more than the cars worth the chance of owners fixing the issue deteriorates.

Whut?

Completely standard. Totally gorgeous. Reportedly legendary to drive.

Other Hondas:
S600? S800?
DC2 Integra, DC5 Integra?
Civic Type R's?
Insight (for technical innovation)
S2000 - Unbeliveable engine in a 2 seater RWD with a good looking package.

Honda have been at the forefront of useable, accessible, reliable performance for 20 years or more.

What I don't know, is whether or not the 4WD system in the Gen4 and 5 was speed sensitive? Anyone?
Pretty sure it was on JDM Gen 4s at least.

Steers in the opposite direction at low speed (for tighter lock) and same direction at high speed (four wheel drift for lane changes).

Amateurs
I paid the princely sum of £295 for my Honda Prelude VTi 2.2 Auto 1997, 130 k miles, no history.

I was going to fix it and sell it on, but fell in love with an engine that sounds like a women on the mental x 1000.

O.k it is an auto, and was advised it hard an intermittent starting issue.
But Tax and mot until April 2013 and the engine runs very well. 4 good tyres, some minor body work issues and rust.

So far about 1.5k miles and no issues, just 1 long starting but worked in the end.
Get tops 30 mpg tops and 20-23 if driven in the vtec zone.

I would highly recommend one, and the 4ws handling is pretty precise and inspires confidence.

Gizmoish is correct.

Parking really is stupidly easy. I've never driven a car before, or since (of any size) that is as easy to park. The downside to this is that, in my opinion anyway, it really doesn't feel nice on tight hairpins. Nothing bad per-se, but it's not a natural feeling.

Honda, if I remember correctly, designed the system with high speed lane changing in mind, and they nailed it imo - felt brilliant at that, and on high speed sweepers.

A worthy shed, definitely a step up on last weeks (what wouldn't have been).

On the Setright point, there is nothing I hate more than when people chuck a random French or Latin word into a sentence. It's just pretentiousness designed to make everyone realise how clever and intellectual you are. Some people just take the cultivation of that image to a whole new level and to me he was one of those people. I'd prefer read any of the journalists on here (even some of the posters).
