RE: PH Carpool: Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9
Discussion
Had a new red one of these as a company car in 1989. Absolutely bonkers, was going through a French 'fast car' phase with five cars from 87 to about 94 being R5 turbo, R5 turbo, 205 Gti 1.9, 405 Mi16 and then R19 16v saloon.
All great cars to drive, but I think the 205 was the best all rounder.

This car looks fab, just needs an original Walker exhaust now to finish it off.
That is a Walker back box connected to a original Peugeot centre section. projectgt said:
Wrong shape for a Walker as the tail pipe curves the wrong way. I have had 2 of these cars, still have one on 23,000 miles with a Walker exhaust.
Well it's got Walker stamped on it.....and it's the correct back box for the age.....trust me I have done a lot of looking into this as I believed it was wrong, but it turns out its correct...the later ones have the short down swept tail pipes. There are two types of fitment "sleeve" or "flange" for me to have the later down swept exhaust I would have to change it from the manifold back.....not worth the hassle.

Well the Top Gear DVD turned up....they sadly didnt use the 405 for static purposes but the 205 gets some good air time..
I urge you to go buy the Top Gear "The worst car in the the history of the World" DVD....
Here is a screen grab of my 205 being put through its paces.....not bad considering 2 days later it was sat in the hall for the WaxStock Showdown concours type competition!!!!

Hmmm, my memories of the 205, wanted the 1.9 but settled for a 1.6 cherry red, could be wrong but wasn't it the case of either electric windows but no slide sunroof or windup windows which then gave you the slide roof, I saw plenty of 87/88 models which seemed to be the case, guessing the run out models like Miami blue had all the kit along with half leather interior?
in Hereford some lad had a white Dimma kitted car which always stood out.....I remember reading up on how Ford were pulling their hair out trying to hone the Fiesta rs turbo to give that 'painted on tarmac' handling which the 205 had in abundance. The 205 was designed by Pininfarina as such it didn't rely on a 'body kit' the door mouldings suited it perfectly, I do miss mine...
