Our Pug 406 HDi, also ex. demonstrator, bought at eight months old in February 2001 with 5430 miles on the clock, has now reached 197,000 miles, still on original clutch.

Currently has an engine problem though: loss of pulling power below about 1800/2000 rpm, but comes to life quite normally above that engine speed. I know that's about the speed range where the turbo become effective, but it's not just that; something seems to have gone wrong recently. A diagnostic check at a Peugeot dealer didn't show any fault codes, so it's an unsolved mystery at the moment. frown FWIW, fuel economy is still very good.

If I remember correctly it was the 406 that was the start of Peugeot s money probs. It was just sooo reliable they didn't sell many parts for the car!
Myself-2007 350Z 106,000 no problems although starting to think about a new clutch to replace the original.smile

The venerable Lexus LS 400 in feb 2015. No problems with 120,000 plus and so long as any rust is chased away 200,000 should be passed without any concerns.

Sounds like the actuator/waste gate is jammed at least partially open. Low down it doesn't spool but then higher up there's enough exhaust gas to get it going.

OK, thanks for that. I'll ask about it, but I'm not really familiar with how turbo diesel systems operate.

What happened at the Pug dealer was that when the diagnostics didn't reveal any fault codes, the technician checked vacuum readings at idle. What he found was a correct reading of about 0.8/0.9 bar at the electronic valve by the bulkhead, but the vacuum at the EGR was well adrift. That showed a much lower vacuum (higher absolute pressure) than it should have been, so a new valve was fitted. That put the vacuum readings right, but it didn't improve the car's performance on the road.

Reading elsewhere on the internet, other people appear to have encountered the problem I have, and somebody said that performance was restored by temporarily disconnecting the mass air flow sensor, so does that mean the sensor is faulty, or perhaps even the mass air flow meter itself?

As I say this is all outside my sphere of expertise, but thanks again for your suggestion. I'll pass this on to the Pug people and see if they can make any progress on that basis.

my Octavia is on 118k and took its 2nd cambelt and waterpump change in january at 115k. The interior rattles like a good un, the leather is in decent shape bar odd marks on the rear window side of the rear bench and the engine is still smooth for a 20vt vw lump. It delivers its power much more smoothly than my mates golf gti.

My dads ph1 RS Clio is the real mile muncher, over 200k now and only the very first signs of bubbles on the arches.

Five years ago I ran a perfect - well, some rust on the arches - G5 Civic into a harder breaking 3-series and after 250k kms she decided to give up on the gearbox. Front was a bit messy so goodbye Honda.

May 2010 Fiat Grande Punto racked up 138k kms troublefree kms so far. First set of rears! Will drive this one until its dust. 19 eurocents / km.

My old clio 197 was just under 110k when I traded her in on May for the 275.
Still had the original gearbox! Which is saying something on these.
Dealer said it was cleaner and in amazing shape and didn't resemble its mileage at all.
First and only car I've owned and taken up to the 100k Mark. The Megane will be the second but I'm out of the club for now.

Ours was doing something like that, be sailing along and suddenly lose boost. Boot it hard up to around 2,000 - 2,500 and all would be well again - fixed by cleaning the MAF sensor, now been ok for nearly a year.

My '91 J plate Peugeot 205 GTI on Wednesday afternoon:

Even after making sure I got to a local car park to take the picture(s) it didn't go to plan hehe Tried crawling the car along while taking a pic including the trip counter - got home and it appears it ended up a bit out of focus frown

At least the one I took while I was stationary was in focus, just with the speedo needle of the Veglia clock right through one of the one's bangheadlaugh
