My trusty 57 plate e91 320d. A little bit of me dies every time I hear the four pot sound but is a very good tool for the job. The car has done over another 20k since that photo was taken. Can't think of anything I would want to replace it with for the moment. Completely agree with the previous poster about comprehensive and preventative maintainence. Have just moved to the other end of the country and the new BMW specialist was amazed at its condition for its age. Well...... apart from the things it was being in for to be fixed wink am hoping to see at least 350-400k from her if she treats me well.

Whoop! The old girl clicked over the other day. A 2002 Saab 95 2.2tid. The most hateful turd of an engine that has no likeable qualities, other than the fact it's clockwork reliability. That said the timing chain is rattling like a skeleton wking in a biscuit tin. It could snap in the next 5 miles, or do another 50k.

My Audi A6 Le Mans 3.0 tdi 57 plate has just ticked over 100k miles.

The car still feels great, and has been relatively inexpensive to run for the last 3 years I've owned it. I should have sold it a year ago when I bought my main car, but this will happily sit for weeks on end without moving. Then when I need something big and practical it starts and drives perfectly without fail.

My wife keeps moaning at me to sell it, but every time I drive it I think otherwise.

My Ka shopping trolley hit 100k miles a few months ago, sounds terrible however keeps on going, has sounded terrible since about 95k miles, now on 102k.

This is my '93 swiss-imported MX-5. Got new arches and sills last autumn, gets (ab)used all year round and has 273.000 km or 169634 miles on the ODO.
Original engine and tranny together with a torsen differential.

"tranny" never makes me think of gearboxes and vans even in a car thread. The picture of the driver wasn't that detailed!

Dear Sir/Madam.

I respectfully tender my resignation from the 100,000 mile club, as I have recently changed my vehicle.
If anyone wishes for instant membership to the club in my place, my reason for prior membership can be found for under £7000 on Autotrader with only 106,000 motorway only ( according to the dealer) miles.
Not bad for a 62 plate Navved up leather clad executive saloon.

I wish you and all your members may years of worn seated, loose handling motoring in the future.

My B7 S4 has just passed the 100,000 miles, hate to think how much petrol has gone into that engine.

my 87 golf 16v is now at 266k-original engine/gearbox but orig. clutch changed at 200k

What's the highest performance cars miles?

I remember a few years ago a Murcilargo on Autocar the first owner a jurno had past 200k on it (orange) and no intention of letting it go.


That's some hefty tax paid

Is that related to the EVO magazine 'Fast Fleet' Murcielago (orange, SG54 xxx) that was on 235k before a customer pranged it? It's progress seems to have quietly slipped from the EVO pages, a shame - I was hoping to find out if it got back on the road after being rebuilt.

I was going to have to tender my resignation, on the basis of selling my E39 M5 on 139,600 miles (and driving beautifully) - but I've just put down a deposit on another car that's showing 117k, so count me back in!

My E91 Pre-LCI 330d is just coming up to 165K.

It runs very well and is returning up to 46.5 real MPG. I recently had it mapped and it made a very healthy 294 bhp and 487 lb.ft.

I have had to spend a bit of money on it for general wear and tear items but I got it cheap so I don't mind spending a bit of cash to get it running perfectly.

I have to agree with previous comments about 'it drives like new'. When I first got the car I thought it drove OK for the mileage but after a while I realised it was quite nervous and fidgety at speed. It also tramlined really badly on certain roads.

I realised the suspension was past its best so I ordered the Bilstein Pro kit for it. This consists of Bilstein shocks with Eibach springs. When I removed the old suspension it was completely shot. The front top mounts were very worn and had huge amounts of play. One of the rear shocks wouldn't even spring back when compressed. There were no knocks or funny noises coming from the suspension though.

After replacing the top mounts and fitting the new suspension the difference was night and day. The steering was that much sharper I actually nearly steered into the verge on the first few corners on my test drive.

I'm sure a lot of people who say their high milers 'drive like new' would find their car would be very similar to mine if they refreshed their suspension.

Well Ive had an A6 2.7 TDi Bought it with aprox 40k back in september 2009.

Im about 135 k in it now and its been...

fast economical and trouble free....

usual tyres and brakes but nothing has gone wrong.

had a spring break but that was a pot hole....

I've got a 1978 MG B on 352000 miles. Not sure how much that counts, as there's not much of the original car left - just the transmission really and the windscreen frame. Engine's been rebuilt or swapped for a rebuilt one 3 times and it got a new bodyshell in 2002.

However, the OP's original point was how well modern cars get to 100k+ miles with no effort and no major catastrophes. My wife's saab 9-3 convertible has passed its centenary with only a suspension and brake refresh and feels like it'll go on for another 100k at this rate. The gear selector feels a little notchy, but that's possibly because I have a pretty new 6 speed lovely shifting Alfa V6 one and the one in the MG is like a rifle bolt. The main thing that gives the Saab's age away is the worn paint on the heater fan speed buttons as it automatically puts the fan on full whack when you first start it up to demist / heat up to climate controlled temp and the wife automatically turns it down to an acceptable fan speed.
