RE: Subaru prepping BRZ Turbo?

I test drove a GT-86 recently, great car, but it needed two things:
1 - more drama, the smooth flat torque curve was great, but just infinitely dull compared to the whizz bang peeks and troughs of a big turbo.
2 - 2 inches more length in the back seat... But seriously, I couldn't fit my two (under 10) kids, the salesman and myself into the thing, may as well be a two seater.
If it had been a proper 2+2 and had a bit more drama about its power delivery, I would have probably had one on order now.
I sat in the back on my second test drive behind the salesman whilst my wife tried it out. Uncomfortable for sure! 1 - more drama, the smooth flat torque curve was great, but just infinitely dull compared to the whizz bang peeks and troughs of a big turbo.

When she drove, with me sat behind her (she's 5' and a bit tall) there was plenty of room to be comfortable. It is no worse than a 911, but for sure not a family car. It's a sports car after all.
If you are after "whizz bang peaks" and more space perhaps a souped up turbo family hatch is where you should place your order?
Trouble is, it's the rule of diminshing returns.
Add more power to the existing package and you'll need better brakes and suspension to take it - not to mention wheel/tyre upgrades.
So you'll end up going a bit faster - but at how much cost?
The GT86 in its current form is a delight simply because it's a simple package (and yes, I have driven it and yes, on a track).
Journo's deal with headline figures, which is not the point of the car, never has been.

350Hp would be in Porsche territory
Subaru should make and sell approved tuning kits for the BRZ. AE86 was all about modification and Subaru could make fortune if they understood the market and approved the kits. Sell the base car cheap and then offer multiple power stages etc.
It's a very fine car as is, but I think 300bhp would be desirableSubaru should make and sell approved tuning kits for the BRZ. 75bhp to go

Subaru don't do gold wheels anymore.
Or even seemingly the proper WR Blue.
Sad.
What relevance does the corporate colours of British America Tobacco's 555 product have on a 2WD Road Biased Car?Or even seemingly the proper WR Blue.
Sad.
Yes, its an iconic colour with respect to World Rallying of the 1990's - extended by Prodrive into later years.. but can we not say goodbye to it?
Cant believe Subaru have dragged it out so long TBH

ABOUT FOOKIN TIME!
Why not have three models?
The N/A entry level
A turbo with say 250 odd bhp
And a Nutter twin turbo with 400 BHP and wide arches.. a ferrari baiting and porsche ttting monster, such a car would make the whole range more desireable and should be good value for the performance on offer..
Go on... it can be done, why not even badge the twin turbo as a Toyota and stick a little Supra badge on the back?
Don't be silly, it needs to weigh little more than a buttercup, have about a couple dozen horses that only charge when the motor is wrung out to 30,000 rpm. That's a PH car; having fun at 45mph zzzzzz Why not have three models?

I guess Subaru's Pro-R will do this in the future?Subaru should make and sell approved tuning kits for the BRZ. AE86 was all about modification and Subaru could make fortune if they understood the market and approved the kits. Sell the base car cheap and then offer multiple power stages etc.

True - look at the new Boxster with 265hp from a 2.7l NA flat 6 engine.
How does that logic work? Porsche are a leader in NA engines(performance to economy), and have been for years, and probably invest many millions in that engine alone. You think another manufacturer will just "make one as good", with no real problem.
Why not, after all, it's only Porsche.
It won't happen - I will eat my hat if Subaru can come up with a 2.5 NA engine with 230-250 bhp for this car.

Secondly most people simply associate Subaru's with blue and gold. Not necessarily the 555 livery (petrolheads obviously do). Getting rid of the gold wheels just didn't look right on the latest Imprezas and doesn't look right on the BRZ.
Why keep the blue and not keep the gold wheels?

Me.. I like big turbo's so you can pootle around and then feel like you just hit a hyperspace button when you floor it. I know people bang on about a linear power delivery, a pure driving experience blah blah blah.. but some of the most loved (and fun) cars in the world are turbocharged (as per my list below....in my opinion of course)
best supercar Ferrari F40
best saloon car new BMW M5
best small saloon BMW 1M
best hot hatch Focus RS500
best Jap rally slag EVO
best Jap sports car Nissan GTR
best 80's cars, any cosworth, Delta Integrale, Audi Quattro etc etc
I am a sucker for a blower... (and no not in that way!)
