RE: Subaru prepping BRZ Turbo?

I suspect the problem is that, IIRC, Subaru's 4WD system requires the engine to be in front of the front axle line so they had a choice at original chassis design time - either make it RWD only and well balanced, or make it possible to fit the 4WD system and make it under-steer like a pig.
If you want a dubiously balanced 4wd rocketship, why not just buy an Impreza?
oh, but the BRZ is sooooo much prettier than the impreza, and, available as a coupeIf you want a dubiously balanced 4wd rocketship, why not just buy an Impreza?

Some nice GT86 driving here:

Think you would be executed for that in the UK, didnt't you?
Good job he cut out all the uphill acceleration sections or he'd never have made the youtube video length limit.http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedd...

I prefer the looks of the TRD GT86 - that Turbo'd with all the options would be very nice. All the TRD kit becomes available Jan 2013 the sales man told me, would add rather a lot to the price though - I think he was way off the mark when he told me £5K more for brakes, exhaust, seats, forged wheels & body kit.
Dream on. The TRD brakes kit will be more than that alone. They're currently talking £35k for the full on TRD.
The BRZ/86 really get the threads going on here dont they
Out of all the people complaining about ruining the poise of the chassis and varying other points of complaint, how many of you have firstly driven the base brz/86 (probably all of you to back up your arguments ) and more importantly out of those that have driven it, how many of you have driven the turbo version, oh yeah, none!
The world of modern turbo chargers isnt some laggy and unresponsive old truck turbo with poor throttle response though If you genuinely prefer n/a cars, this obviously isnt for you, but maybe, just maybe, this was the car Toyota/Subaru always wanted to do in the first place (read below for Subaru's route back to wrc), but to get round ever increasing emission targets threw out some watered down version, billed as "the drivers car" to assist in the later release of a hot (proper) version, which as others have mentioned may forge Subaru's path back into WRC (i do hope so). I think the fact Subaru and Toyota have already been playing, probably long before the release of the n/a version, goes to show the bigger bhp route was always the avenue these models were going to take!
I would hate to see what this does for 2nd values, ouch!

Think he cut mostly because of sections with traffic but yep, I think that 200 hp from the low torque engine is plenty, but only with rally spec close ratio gearbox, not with the roadcar daily usable gearing, or worst with the emission test compatible, daily unusable loooong gearing. Although GT86 don't have the latter, it actually looks slower going uphill than the old AE86:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHOkR8vrP94

Will read the thread fully at home, but I'm sure I'm not the first to say:
1.) That's the power the car should have had to start with.
2.) That Subaru concept is the way the car should have looked to start with.
3.) That "factory upgraded Toyota" looks like a horrendous Halfords lash up.
4.) How expensive will a turbo Subaru looking like the concept be?

Look at the N/A M engines or the S2000 as an example. They won't make that anymore, because below 5k RPM they have to strangle it to keep the emissions lower.
Therefore, it becomes rubbish to drive.
Unfortunately things have moved on due to the EU emission nonsense, so you won't see that 2.5 NA anytime soon, all IMHO of course.
Also, to perhaps counter your other point - why would a company producing turbo engines for the best part of 2 to 3 decades, drop all that knowledge and IP? That's like asking Lotus to go build a BMW 5 series competitor.
You can have turbo and responsive; you just have to do it right.

ABOUT FOOKIN TIME!
Why not have three models?
The N/A entry level
A turbo with say 250 odd bhp
And a Nutter twin turbo with 400 BHP and wide arches.. a ferrari baiting and porsche ttting monster, such a car would make the whole range more desireable and should be good value for the performance on offer..
Go on... it can be done, why not even badge the twin turbo as a Toyota and stick a little Supra badge on the back?
Only 400? I want to see it have so much force going through the tyres that obi wan thinks its the next jedi master. Why not have three models?
