Amazing the difference in ride quality between the 2 lotus's, great vid, thanks PH
Yeah, all sorts of things that could be behind that too. The 79 was aluminium, the carbon tubs brought a massive benefit in chassis stiffness. The 79 also has ground effects. With skirts, but still a level body was desirable, so it may well be stiffer. Also, the modern cars, as far as I can tell, have built in camera mounts so the camera is quite solidly attached to the car (maybe...) whereas on the 79 it is more likely suckered or duck taped to a glassfibre bit of bodywork (looked too low to be the rollhoop) which again, being glassfibre and quite square, is going to be a lot more floppy than modern, curvy bodywork.
I'd think that there are a whole load of factors causing that much camera vibration... and then there's an engine that's probably averaging something like 7000rpm instead of 16000.

Does that mean it crosses over into mexico around turn 12 and we are likely to see some illegals hanging onto gearboxes at turn 14?
You do realize that Austin is 230 miles from the nearest border crossing to Mexico, right? That's a bit like saying the Spa circuit crosses into the city of Paris! And they say Americans are bad at geography... Renault R30 was 2010-spec wasn't it? So not current, just more modern...
Looks good though, I'm actually looking forward to seeing how it races. The title will be decided before then but the last race is always a bit gung-ho.
So, 10 inches... you'd probably get away with a 300mm f2.8, what are the chances that the security guards searching bags on entry won't recognise a 2x teleconverter?

The 79 sounds like it's not firing properly, you can see Andretti struggling with what looks like a lack of power. It is a very strong chassis as it was strengthened to take the added load of ground effect and faster cornering speeds.

Yes it was definitely coughing and sputtering a lot but then it seemed to clear its throat hugher up te rev range. I was wondering if that's just how the Cosworth engines were in those days, but they were supposed to be very tractable. If the engine was rough though that would be anoter explanation for all the vibration.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKpgjENCH1s

I think you missed the point
No, I got it - and I agree with it as well. The choice of name for this track is poorly conceived. I may never understand why U.S. sporting authorities so frequently aggrandize the naming of their events and venues and the like.Apologies to pattieG for my initial harsh reaction. That too was poorly conceived.
It looks like a surprisingly good track. All the blind corners, off camber corners and combination corners. It certainly seems better than the last Indianapolis track. The most anticipated race this season? Wonder what the points standing will look like in November
With regards to funding, remember in America we are known for smart bombs (now drones) and dumb kids so I'm not concerned about changing that heritage but I love big bird.
