Red V8 has been for sale for ever.
Terrible respray in a garish(and to my mind horrid) colour, those steel wheels aren't alloy, and it's at least 2k overpriced. Anyone selling a 60k 23 year old LR as being low mileage needs a stern talking to.

Yes, I reckon £1,500 to £2,000 overpriced. The wheels are standard for the year but people do like alloys, I agree. On the plus side, it appears to have air conditioning which would have been unheard of back then.

Finished - The final rebuild cost never to be disclosed with the wife..

That is fantastic!

I succumbed to another cheapo one that same colour last week, which we used for a stag-do over the weekend. I don't think that I will ever get around to tidying it up, but your picture just goes to show what is possible smile

Great colour, makes a refreshing change from Bronze Green..

Looking at the others for sale here.. The V8 would be nice, but in a Series cloud9. The Series 2 looks top money for what it is, and the Bramley Series makes me realise my agreed value insurance is £10K underyikes

That looks like a good job well done smile Are you keeping or selling it? Although I think it would be a shame to sell.

And CY88, that doesn't look like that much of a cheapo to me?

Anybody ooop north needs to visit Huddersfield Land Rover center at least once in their lives.
They have Range Rover #1 in their showroom and some of the nicest series motors on earth.

Please people differenciate between S2 and S2a.The original S2's are quite a rare thing but the 2a's are a lot more common. It's all about the headlights.

...and the synchromesh, not that it makes much difference on an old Landybox. Crash, bang, wallop.

Its a keeper for the foreseeable future.. House renovation is currently the order of the day at present.. The next project, funds and availability allowing, is a willow green E-Type or lincoln green two door RR.. Bit of theme running with the colour..

Not just the headlights, my 2a has them in the center like a 2.

Not to mention the axles, engines, gearboxes and myriad other minor differences between the 2 and 2A.

It may look tidy from a distance, but it has the usual view of the tarmac through holes in the front footwells, bulkead pillars that are on their way out, shot outriggers, doors that pop open as you turn corners, and clouds of white/blue smoke coming from exhaust. I've noticed that when in traffic the car behind always drops to at least 20 yards back smile I suppose that some might say that those are all part of the charm of ownership though!

this is my 1969 2a pretty standard apart from Parabolic springs gas shocks and some slightly bigger tyres.
Advice on what to get try to avoid anything thats been messed with they look best as landrover intended no need for defender fronts and one piece doors. Engine wise if you dont use it often do mega miles a 2.25 petrol is a great choice powerful enough and quiet to. Diesels are noisy but not as underpowered as people say. If you fancy a TDi they are good plenty of power but make sure its a quality conversion seen some awfull ones about

Wisest words on the thread! I've left mine looking like a bag of nails however it still looks nicer than a shiny defender fronted bitsa!

My wife and I argue a lot now thanks to this thread.

Me: "I want a series III"
Her: "no, you have a child and a mortgage to pay for"
Me: "sell the house, buy a caravan and tow it with the series III?"
Her: "no"

And various other iterations of the argument. I don't think it would fit through the garage door anyway, how tall are they in standard trim?

I can't remember, but tallish.

I thought my old Landy had sold, but was mistaken. It's back on eBay, overpriced at £1395, given that it needs a fair bit of doing to.

rolleyes Anybody who knows anything about series motors knows that a genuine S2 has 'sticky out' lights but the S2a has 'flat' lights.
Easiest and quickest way of telling one from the other at a glance.

Money, time and space - Easily consumed on a old Land Rover..

Before £400 off eBay + 15 hours work and a new half chassis

Space - Loft and Garage full at all times during the rebuild

Finished - The final rebuild cost never to be disclosed with the wife..

I know very little about old landies (other than needing one in my life)

What is this specific model? Series 2?

Also as a rough guide where does this stand you? You mention £400 and 15 hours?

I am in love with it smile
