However, I still think you need a saloon wafter with some poke rather than two rear driver soft tops but keep us updated on how you get on during the winter months! :-)

Mid January you will miss the Lexus hugely. Mine has now done 110,000, runs beautifully and with winter tyres has excellent traction. What no heated seats nor multi speaker hifi and full electrics....have you gone mad Garlick!!!

I've had a couple of MX-5s and a LS400, although a completely different type of car, I miss the Lexus more.
I know, I know...

Does 'strike a good deal' mean 'i will give you and your company a mention on my write up'?

Not specifically, but through my job I obviously get to meet people who can help. In all the years I've had the TVR (for example) I've paid normal punter rates at Fernhurst (quite rightly) but they still get the editorial credit for being the people who work on my car.

Works both ways I s'pose, you pay full rates so don't expect any skimping on the work, and they know (I presume) you drop their name in when writing about your car so have an interest in ensuring you're not writing about anything other than good workmanship!

I'd like to think so!

Erm that doesn't really make sense as you now have two cars both of which aren't great winter / motorway cars.

Should have either LPG'd the Lexus or replaced it with a cheaper cruiser or even something like a Puma (a more civilised MX5 type car)

Or replaced the TVR with a supercharged MX5 as that's a happy compromise.

I went the other way, chopped in an MX5 for a 99 LS400.

Had it nearly a year now, and it is, by a considerable margin, the best car I've ever owned or driven.

Maybe it's my age, but I never really took to the Mazda as I expected to.

Shame you got rid of the LS, I used to enjoy reading about it, but good luck with the Mazda anyway.

Sad to see the Lexus go, but knowing the senior citizen to whom it was sold, rest assured in your bed at night comfortable in the knowledge that the damped cubbies will be fully stocked with Werthers and liniment and the rear shelf will never be without an ample supply of triple ply tissues smile

Sill quotes range from £250 to £350 per side depending on the work needed.

I managed to strike a few good deals here and there and the whole car, as it stands today, owes me a few hundred quid over SOTW budget.
Nice one, thanks thumbup

Good work Garlic. Don't add Steve and James on facebook or you'll end up wanting stuff they have on a nearly daily basis!

You and Dan need to get yourselves down to the Bracknell meet in a couple of weeks. Mr Hayward will fill you in on the details.

Nice write up, think you will miss the Lexus though! Should have listed it on eBay and posted the link here, I think many many PHers would have liked to have bought it!

Enjoy the 5! Not sure about swapping for leather seats though, much more slippy when you track her...

Interesting change.

Thanks for the costs Garlick. I was looking at weedy non-PAS 1.6 a few weeks ago that had been 'plated' in the cills rather than replacements and it sounded like the whole of the underside in had been plastered with underseal. I think it sold for about £200-£300 more than the purchase price of yours.

I replaced my Chimaera with an MX5. Both terrific cars to drive.

Unfortunately, 3 trouble-free, confidence-inducing years with the Beaast of Blackpool driving left me with exaggerated belief in my driving ability and I drove the Rev-Happy Roadster backwards into a tree less than 2 weeks later.

Once it had been dragged off the bank away from the tree I drove it home; my pride was more damaged than the car.

Then it hit an properly immovable object: "The most astoundingly comprehensive MOT failure I've ever seen" said my local tester.

Now I drive a Skoda Roomster.
