M3, Focus, Mit Evo, Subaru etc... drivers are not going to switch to girly shopping trolley no matter the power it may have along with its likely silly price tag.
Its not going to happen.
A 1 Series 'M' maybe not an A-Class.
A niche that didn't need filling.
utter toshIts not going to happen.

ive owned 2 STi PPS and an EVO and this car is exactly what i want, Scooby performance in a stealth body with a decent(ish) interior and good toys

final price will matter, i am also worried that the interior is not all that according to someone in this thread
So Chris how much is it a move on from a MK5/6/7 GTI Golf??
For me the Haldex system never delivers especially on track with shuffling power syndrome.
I did have a blast in a Golf R tuned by APR developing 450+ with a Haldex controller...great though it was to a degree it will probably muller the DSG/Haldex in the end.
As a road car only I'm sure it will be a very reasonable package but at what cost.
Value for money for me starts at an E90 M3 or 1M...no fussy 4WD pretence.

GTI golf is just a "normal" model, there is nothing remotely interesting/special about it. The GTI branding is just a sales gimmick to fool people in to thinking its something special when its not.For me the Haldex system never delivers especially on track with shuffling power syndrome.

Don't get your point about the APR car - if you highly modify a vehicle premature wear may occur? what does this have to do with the Merc ?
Sounds like you have a "fussy" M badge pretence to me ?

No fussy M badge pretence....but getting 350 out of a 2 litre blown motor is easy these days and this Merc is just a hotted up A series with some clever manipulation of Haldex....already achieved in VAG world with a Haldex Controller. AMG have the name for sure in Merc world but I can certainly thinh of better value over the Merc.Don't get your point about the APR car - if you highly modify a vehicle premature wear may occur? what does this have to do with the Merc ?

The GTI particularly the MK5 moved the game on hugely after the disatrous MK3/4. I agree it's not in the same price league but value for money and it's capability should not be underestimated.
I will be interested in a closer look when the Merc is further tested on our roads but my point was the dreaded Haldex will be it's achilles heal IMO.
Can confirm that the '45' AMG is for the 45th Anniversary of AMG!
This engine and 4matic system will be used in both the CLA45 Saloon and CLA45 Shooting Brake you will see middle of next year.
The 7DCT gearbox has been completely revised for the AMG models to handle the increased torque levels.
The body changes wont be massive but more subtle changes as you would find between a C250 Sport Plus to a C63 AMG. Mercedes and AMG would not make an AMG model look like a standard car.

Guess what. It'll be turbocharged, chavvy, and probably a bit ste and understeery. Mega Sales focused budget hatch with a turbo bolted on.
No thanks.
Whatever happened to good cheeky 2.0 litre screamers?
Chavvy ? don't see it.No thanks.

Understeer - go read the articles, lift off oversteer aplenty it seems.
budget hatch at 40k ? if anything I'd say "fecking expensive hot hatch"
I think it is the 2 litre "screamer" you mention... unless you want to go to a VTEC and 3453563rpm and feck all torque ?
