What an awesome car. Would love a blast in one. Doesn't the Camaro have the same underpinnings as the current Holden and therefore the VXR8?

Spun off the same platform but not that much else in common, I don't think. Certainly plato was less than enthusiastic about it compared to the VXR8.

What's the big fuss about the LHD/RHD issue?

I NEVER had any issue with driving a RHD car on the mainland or a LHD in UK.
+1
I had an Integrale for 10 years and rarely found it a problem, despite alternating with whatever rhd cars I owned at the same time. Ok, car park barriers were a pain if I was on my own (and I accept that a Camaro would be more of a pain as it’s much wider), but parking against a kerb is easier (and you step out onto the pavement). Also, you could often compensate for visibility issues when overtaking by looking down the left of the vehicle in front.
More of a pain was instantaneously converting mph to kph as a speed limit sign hove into view! That won’t be a problem with the Camaro of course.

Wish these were better priced in the UK frown

Had the pleasure of a Challenger HEMI over in San Francisco a few months back and it was a very memorable and enjoyable experience. A far better car than I expected quality wise, was suitably quick, and made all the right sorts of noises smile

I have to say the Camaro is my least favourite of the re-imagined muscle cars though..

In some ways I prefer LHD. My Trans Am wears expensive wheels and very expensive, parking on the left is easy I can get it to within 1 cm of the curb, so no plank knocks the other side mirror off and I dont ruin my wheels.

Also when you overtake, you can wave at the person you are blasting past up close and personal!biggrin

I can! I have no issue with the actual mechanical act of driving a LHD car (driven a lot) but I detest driving a LHD on our roads, or a RHD car in Europe. Booths, tolls, certain junctions...all balls with the wrong drive.

I personally don't mind LHD.

But....

Some people do mind. We're all different and some aren't willing to overlook the inconveniences of being on the 'wrong side'.

Similarly, some people don't mind the cheaper cabins and poorer packaging. Others don't see that as a problem and consider such differences as adding to the character and uniqueness of the vehicle.

We're all different, I find it surprising we have to have the same drawn out discussions each time there's an article like this.

It's frustrating.banghead

Being new here, and an American, perhaps I can give you a little insight into this car. The 2012 model has circled the ring at 7:41:21 in a 4000+ pound behemoth. If interested here is an excellent Motor Trend article, compares the ZL1 to the Boss 302 Mustang, and also gives you a look see at the incredible 2013 Shelby GT 500 with 662. H.P.

I've been driving LHD for years, and no amount of arguing will change the minds of those who can't cope (thankfully). On the very rare occasions that I go through a toll (possibly once or twice a year) I've got a grabber tucked down the side of the seat.

Can't remember the last time I needed it though.

I think the Camaro is a great car, and is better than the Mustang. The Mustang just feels, drives and handles in a very old fashioned way, which is saying something as the Camaro is hardly modern.

The Camaro shares it's platform and oily bits with the VXR8 which is a tidy motor by any standards. So it's not really a surprise that it got a favorable review, even from the tediously snobbish PH test team.

Few things that I have seen mentioned, better priced? really? so you want your taxes etc. paid for by somebody else and you want it shipped for free from the US? Remember the US price bears no relation to the cost over here, the sole reason it costs £36k and not the equivalent of $36 over here (aside from the cost of shipping) is all down to tax - that’s all it is. They are well priced it’s the Gov't that’s the problem.

And also you get let’s say 4/5 of the performance of an M3 for £36k that’s what just over half the cost?

The anti LHD group will never be convinced, I have had my Mustang for just shy of 3 1/2 years and just over 34,000 miles and I can say that LHD has caused me zero problems in that time/mileage.

Sadly for the UK dealers though I'd always buy an imported car rather than a UK spec one, basically because the VED is half for an import and from what I have read the insurance is marginally cheaper too.

and the best bit is it doesn't have a BMW/Merc/Audi etc. badge on it smile

Its a nice looking car until you see the interior a steering wheel straight out of a Vauxhall Insignia and air vents that look at home on a Ford KA apart from that I like it very much and being LHD.....does it really really matter nah!!!

I love any modern car without a sh*tload of technocrap spoiling the driving interface. Steering wheel, shifter, V8, I'm ready to roll.

I put that mostly down to rarity on our roads.

When/If Ford's global Mustang comes out, I wonder how much of a smile that will put on our faces after a few years of being on sale, V8 or not.

Looks nice and good value in the US, but that engine has low for power from the displacement. 5 years ago Mercedes were getting 450+ bhp and over 500 Ft lb or torque from the C63 AMG engine.
