If I were in the market for one, I'd be saving up for an end of production model. These yearly update would annoy me, having paid a substantial £70,000 only to have it outdated within a year.

yes, it would be very slightly outdated and faster than 99% of cars out there, but still...

They are usable. If you like balancing a rear window on your face

Loved it when it 1st came out..........trouble is its too big,too heavy & WAY too wide for my fav roads. I feel sorry for Nissan, the biggest problems they have is the badge & the running costs.

Not seen one for a long time, local nob in Maghull had one in 2009.....i heard he crashed it BIG time.

What he said.. How much of the market place did they lose, because you can't fit kids in the back? They should have lost some of that boot space..

As per the second post;
Lose some weight!
How about ditching the rear seats, losing the stereo, replacing climate with a simpler, lighter a/c system and replacing those seats; does it really need multi-adjustable electric seats?
A BMW CSL didn't; get some lightweight seats with fixed backs.
A GT-R-Lite?

Now *that* is a car I would buy.

Every single time I've seen one they are being driven hard. The squealing when they stomp on the brakes though...it could wake up the neighborhood! soapbox

My thinking exactly.

GT-Rs just look like any other dull Nissan saloon but with spoilers.

None of the grace, poise, elegance, nor beautiful lines of its Italian cousins.

A supercar should look like a supercar, not just go like one.

The original seems to be good value now, depending on what the servicing costs are when some of the more expensive items need replacing. Quite tempting to have one for a year with a manufacturer warranty attached.

what makes you think climate control add's weight over a 'normal' AC system, its just a few sensors.

Its in a league above a m3 CSL.

What do you think a 100kgs would bring you in the real world?

Utter nonsense. Look what happened the last time the Japanese built a supercar that looked like one. The NSX received universal praise yet no-one wanted one. The problem is that Italian supercars have the market to themselves and anything else hasn't got a look-in unless it has got a real USP, ie the Veyron with the top speed. Horatio Pagani even used Italy to built his empire because no-one wants a South American supercar! Nissan isn't exotic enough to compete with Ferrari and Lamborghini on their terms, it had to create its own market, hence the GT-R being a brutal sledgehammer rather than a scalpel.

I thought the interview that PH had with the 'father of GTR' back in 2009 answered the weight question....

Heh, you call it utter nonsense, then your ensuing paragraph agrees with me entirely. smile

You describe the GT-R as a 'brutal-sledgehammer' to the Italian 'scalpel'. I completely agree.

I like the look of the scalpel, not the sledgehammer.

There's a reason the Italians have a large slice of that market, it's because the Italians breathe a soul into their creations that no other nation can. It's an art; and as such, is more than mere engineering.

Besides, we are discussing aesthetics here, which are, as I always point out, utterly subjective.
