RE: 2013 Nissan GT-R: now even more so
Discussion
I agree, and in answer to a previous post never suggested a CSL was a peer to a GT-R.
My point is, the press and ow ETS all raved about the CSL over an M3 because of it being stripped back and lighter, albeit with tyres that were awful in the wet.
So ill ask the question a different way;
Is a sumo wrestler more or less nimble than a ballet dancer (and its not all about power)?
It'll be a couple of years until I can afford even a second hand GT-R, and will probably buy She Who Must Be Obeyed a Ferrari (used) instead, but I'd still like one for its inate and possibly unique character and abilities.

I always laugh at the comments GT-R’s bring on this forum, especially from mostly those who will never drive or own any car in this league. Get behind the wheel of one and you’re totally changed. It’s a fantastic car which you can use every day and park up in a busy town and no scrote will key it like they would a Ferrari etc…
Fair enough we all have an opinion but most people who knock this car drive normal cars. Jealousy maybe that it is such an affordable supercar,,,, I think so,,, keep dreaming and knocking it, the GT-R will only get better.

I could have bought the Datsun and had change, but I chose a different. It is a great car, but there are also drawbacks and aesthetically it does nothing for me.

High speed corner stability. Weight is required as they can't generate lots of downforce with a road car, even if they could the car would be twitchy. The car is designed with 1700kg in mind, and all the other components compliment this.
I've learnt that from watching a 2minute clip of him explaining why the cars heavy. But nope, according to PH its too heavy and Kazutoshi didn't think about dropping weight. What.A.Fool.

As per the second post;
Lose some weight!
How about ditching the rear seats, losing the stereo, replacing climate with a simpler, lighter a/c system and replacing those seats; does it really need multi-adjustable electric seats?
A BMW CSL didn't; get some lightweight seats with fixed backs.
A GT-R-Lite?
Now *that* is a car I would buy.Lose some weight!

As for the weight thing, APPARENTLY it's heavy on purpose as it makes it faster. Mizuno says so, so it must be true despite physics and years of motorsport which proves quite the contrary.
As for those asking why it should weigh less\what will it achieve? How about the very simple fact that a lighter car will be easier on the very expensive consumables like tyres, brakes and suspension which might actually make the stratospheric running costs a bit more manageable.
All this might sound like I don't like the GT-R, on the contrary I love it but what I don't love is the droves of blinkered fanboys who always seem to come out whenever the GT-R is mentioned, most of whom have been no where near one except on a PS3. It is a VERY good car but like almost any car it does have it's faults, excess weight and running costs being the most prominent IMO.

For what its worth IMHO the GTR represents all that is great about motoring in terms a passion and enjoyment.
To clarify this I would point out we all love to drive hard an fast where appropriate, we love cars that allow this feel planted and thrilling. In terms of looks Ferrari and other exotic are great becasue they look like no other thing on the road but thats not to say they are beautiful etc (I am not keen on the FF but love the 599 etc where as the 458 I think looks a bit playstation). The GTR is distintive it looks different people (non car types) don't recognise it but its clear that its a fast car etc.
The GTR is also relativly speaking cheap (£80k is more than I earn in two years but still its not £200k like a 458 with some options), its reliable (I assume) and can be serviced by any of the nissan dealers in the UK with ease.
As for the driving experience well I drive a 2007 impreza a car I feel is amazing in that it makes me feel like I am a driving god it grips and steers with ease. My skill levels have nothing to do with it so its all the fun of the fair with little risk. The GTR is the same just magnified to level 10. I have driven one and it allowed me to go faster than I thought have fun yet not worry about heading into the weeds the Lambo I drove on the same day did not.
So to sum up the GTR really is fantastic to look at drive and a relative bargin...does not make it better than the compertition but it does make it a dam fine car.

In that case get your cheque book out as they already make it, it's called the SpecV although funnily enough reviews weren't very favorable for it.

Exactly. Apparently it's ok for it to be 1700kg because that is the same as an F1 car, 600kg of car & 1100kg of downforce.As for the weight thing, APPARENTLY it's heavy on purpose as it makes it faster. Mizuno says so, so it must be true despite physics and years of motorsport which proves quite the contrary.

Convienetly ignores factors such as polar moment of interia,, etc.
I can appreciate the GT-R for what it does, bend the laws of pyhsics to breaking point, but as a car it leaves me completely cold. I sat in one at FoS in 2009 and the grade of plastics used for the trim around the array of buttons on the dash was out of place on a £20k hot hatch, it was plain unforgiveable on a £55k sports car. Then theres the size of the thing, not the weight, that is a seperate issue, it's just to big for what is esstentailly a two seater car, to be fun on B roads.

Can definitely appreciate the interior quality, although I think anyone who buys these cars weighs the extreme performance against some penny-pinching elsewhere to get the low price tag.
It might be big, but I don't think you could ever say the GT-R is a B-road type of car. With performance that massive it's obvious environment is a track or A-road.

The electic adjustable seats are very light apparently, remember they are heated too etc. I agree though, the interior is very good, but it could do with some expensive materials like alcantara. Although, tbh if you want alcantara, but a sheet of it, some spray glue and wrap you own things easy enough to do(but I agree, you shouldn't have to)

I love it when people call Nissan's Datsuns like its a slur Stick an italian badge on it and pay 100k more, i'm sure it'll fit in at your tennis club then.
Not at all, just some of us are old enough to remember the Datsun as a brand. My neighbour had a Datsun 240Z - I was very envious at the time Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
