Love the RS2, one of my favourite cars of all time, and hopefully a purchase in the not so distant future. Having debated the merits of the B5 RS4, W124 500E and E34 M5, the RS2 is definitely the car that ticks most of the boxes for me in what I want next. As previously mentioned, a de-badge would also be on the cards, or possibly a re-badge (80 1.9 TDi biggrin)

Speaking of the C4 100 S4, I have heard talk of a "Plus" model before, with the engine out of the Audi V8 4.2 in 1992. Has anyone ever seen one?

yes

The urS4/S6 plus were available with the V8 but only in LHD. I've seen one urS6 plus and it sounded lovely (was quick too!).

Its an awesome machine, but would you really choose one over a B5 RS4?

Audi & Porsche -great marriage. Do think a smaller turbo may have worked better.
The turbo fitted worked just fine, I found no problem at all working round the turbo lag. It was a lot less noticeable than an early Impreza IMO. Mine was 'chipped' to 370bhp.

Yes, did, had the funds but the RS2 is a much more hardy vehicle and less troublesome, mine is not for sale.
They can only go up but too many are no longer standard and well messed with.

I love these, I've only ever seen one once a fair few years ago. I saw a Blue one parked in Hornchurch, Essex. It had 993 Turbo wheels on it, but it also had a full set of wheels & tyres in the boot (they were stacked next to each other so they could bee seen through the rear window)

Also if you're interested in a 1/18 scale model of it, OTTO Models from France will be releasing one at the end of the month.

Absolutely epic cars, what i love most is the youth of today would not have a clue what it is so they would be so shocked that a tarted up Audi 80 has dispatched them in a split second.

Always remeber reading an article about the RS2 in GT Porsche magazine, the car in question was a stunning Imola Yellow example, the road tester said the following...."below 3000 rpm forget it, 3500 rpm things start to get interesting and at 4000 rpm prepare for take off.

Mega car, the original and for me the best fast estate ever.
Mine is an Audi 80 shade of green (Ragussa) and virtually nobody knows what it is, especially when covered in road crud, so Audi 80 shape and colour so looks like an oldish dog, tickle the turbo up and it warps off into the distance, on classic car insurance too !! ha ha

That is rare, and does look classy when polished up.

It's a close call, but my reasons are:

- It was the first of the breed (although I'm sure someone will point out that I've listed an E34 M5 up above instead of an E28 wink)
- I marginally prefer the styling of the RS2
- I love the fact it was built by Porsche, so as to mark it out as something different
- The smaller capacity engine and few extra years on the clock mean there are significant savings to be had in terms of motor tax and insurance here in Rep. of Ireland
- I used to have an 80 1.8S, so the RS2 was the unobtainable dream back then

Strangely, as good as I'm sure all the RS6s and the B7 RS4 are, they don't really appeal

I agree with you there - I just don't feel the same attraction to the v8 RS4 as the turbo ones. Forced induction all the way.

The RS2 colour is "RS Blue Pearl Effect".. It was later, on the B5 S4 and RS4 I think, that it was changed to Nogaro Blue.

The later RS models are excellent, but the RS2 is the one.

PPS, Also amost finished restoring an E34 M5 3.8 at the moment, could not resist the low cost although it needed a lot of effort and swallowed a few bob, another nice handbuilt car where the quality of engineering etc shine through, also will go on classic car policy. !!

When I was looking for an Avant quattro I toyed with running an RS2 as a daily, the £8-10k ones seemed very tired though and I heard NJ's cars are often the same just £4K more.

Nice collection you're putting together there smile

The "problem" for me is that I've already got two front-engined RWD cars that I really couldn't bear to sell, so when I can afford it (going to be a liberal use of the old "man maths" soon I feel biggrin) I want something that bit different, and the RS2 just fits the bill perfectly. I was all set to try and make a move on one this time last year, and then an Alpina C2 came on the market and I had to go and buy it, so the RS2-type car had to be put on hold for a while

I should also point out that I have absolutely no use whatsover for even one estate, but that doesn't stop me thinking that they are just the coolest form of car!

I seem to remember a blue car getting sold last year with about 60k miles on it. Might have been sold through Gmund? Didn't take long to go at all, but can't remember much more about it other than it looked superb in the advert

I have loved every minute of my RS Blue RS2 ownership. So far its been 4 years and its my daily driver. The only think I dont like is that I need to replace the top mounts every 6 months or the steering goes vague.
For me its one of 12 in New Zealand so it makes it feel more special to me, plus the fact that 99.9% of people dont know what it is. Im sure people feel sorry for me driving round in an old blue Audi wink
