it wasn just me who skipped through the article to get to the forum then?
It wasn't just you TT vs Scirocco could have been a good comparision but as soon as I realised they were both TDi versions, I wasn't interested anymore. Sorry PH but this is a bit of a fail, IMHO.
The TT has a number of upgrades including forged aluminium suspension components, recalibrated steering, modified geoemtry (lower roll centre) and more. The bodyshell on the TT is also reinforced to a greater degree than the Golf and A3 equivalent.
I did a bit of research on the platform as a potential base for a conversion project: http://www.mwstewart.co.uk/misc/SSP_381.pdf
In summary the Scricco is a budget car and the TT isn't. Gone are the days when Audi can get away with producing a rebodied and essentially unmodified A3, and advertising it as a sports coupe like they did with the fist generation TT.

I've always held this site as the only car news media not bought by VAG group, the only one I visit and the only one I recommend. There's been way too much BMW propaganda lately and I could live with it only because I hate BMW a little less than VAG, but this article has seriously damaged my trust on PH. From now on I wont recommend it anymore and if I ever read something as evidently payed as this I wont return. And I wont swallow the "we need the money to be better" excuse, they all give it and they all have turned into publicity companies. I almost never comment on this site and I feel so sorry to do it like this, sorry for PH but mostly sorry for me. Is gonna be diffcult to have a nice monday today.
They might be boring, but the point about Blood Brothers is that we look at two different cars available with the same engine. So we've looked at comparisons of stuff with the Ford 5 pot turbo, and we'll doubtless look at stuff with the JLR V8. I won't attempt to disagree with anyone who thinks they're boring (frankly they don't exactly set my hair on fire either) but the accusation that this is sponsored is inaccurate, and clearly requires some clarification.
As ever with PistonHeads, reading is not compulsory. There are other things published on PH today should this not be to your taste...

Jesus Christ! I'll be heading for a midlife crisis in the next few years. Is this what I have to look forward to?
I would say these are more cars that you might have just before or after a mid life crisis, but not for the actual midlife crisis.
I think I'm having mine now, but I chose a 350Z and am only 33. That must mean I'm going to have a short life I could easily envisage something a bit more toned down / boring / easy / cheap next. This type of thing would seem to fit the bill.

What prompted my initial comment was not so much that it was boring but the fact it read like simply a rehash of a sales brochure or press release. Other than the fact that both cars obviously had to be driven to the HAS to be photographed there is next to no mention of what they actually drive like.As ever with PistonHeads, reading is not compulsory. So little time spent on talking about the feeling of drive around town or motorway Vs the spirited B road hack. The huge differential between the cars is the steering and handling. Where was the intricate detail on this rather than a snatched sentence or two?
The Scirocco has driver choosen, multiple suspension settings which when i tested and reviewed the car seemingly did nothing. I want to know about this.....not what the dimming mirrors cost!
If you are buying either of these cars it's not for the 0-60 sprint but rather the economy AND whether you can have an fun once the beast is shuffling on a twisty road.
As someone else stated, i could've gone to the sales bumpf for most of the content of this article.

Having driven the TT TDi I can confirm it's not a bad steer at all really and it's a bloody nice place to sit too! Feel top notch. Those with company car allowances to think about could do a lot worse IMO. I'd still take the 2.0T petrol version over it though!!
Fair enough the car might not be to every readers tastes - but I don't think the st that a lot of people throw is necessarily very fair, and certainly not based on experience.
So - well done PH for writing something a bit different to the usual 0-60 / powers sliding reviews that Chris Harris manages. (Okay maybe that's unfair but he's still in the dog-house for his Z4 Coupe article IMO!)
