I just sold my 2010 v10 R-Tronic, the gearbox certainly had it's moments but full throttle upshifts where brutal, they didn't add to the experience in my opinion, they just felt unnecessarily rough. I'm sure the new gearbox would be a huge improvement for me however if I was to buy the new R8 it would be a manual I think, not because it's 'better' but I missed the satisfaction of a good downshift...

200ms shift = fast? hardly, you can do that with a normal manual if you're an animal.......... (or if it's a hire/loaner car ;-)

230ms is not a fast shift at all. The only things these DCTs do well are emissions and smooth shifts. If that's all you want then they are great, but if performance and some kind of involvement is what you want then they are rubbish.

There must be an error, 230ms as you say is not fast at all, a good racing driver will shift a manual box in that time.

VW claim their DSG box is the fastest shifting gearbox in the world. Audi's S-tronic is identical to VW's DSG, just different name for a different brand.

VW claim its DSG boxes can change gear in 8ms. I suspect someone has misinterpreted Audi's definition. Reaction time, in full auto, there is no reaction time, its just auto shift. For sure, 230ms is a lot of nonsense for a DSG box, that is nearly 30x slower shifting than the box in a VW GTI.

DSG shift time is IIRC software programmed for smoothness so the box shifts a lot slower than hardware is technically capable of. Hence the ability for remappers to improve shift times.
Anyway the time is probably measured clutch engagement to disengagement so a degree of deliberate clutch slip would increase the time somewhat.
