RE: Tunnel runners 'nutters' says MP
Discussion
NOT IN MY BACK YARD!!!
I'd like to drive my TVR at max rpm in first gear past the house of the paper hat that flies their helicopter low over my house most weekdays...commuting to 'work' mid-morning while I'm trying to sleep after a night shift.
No doubt their house is in the country and they moan about loud bikes and cars going past on a weekend.

Just another PR stunt to get the Victor Meldrew vote from another moronic MP.
Talking of noise pollution, a couple of cretins used to drive around in a liviered up car with a tannoy thing on the roof, spouting the usual "vote labour in your next local election" and all that st. I'd have complained about the noise of that, had some helpful local kids started egging the car every time it was out on it's rounds.

At the risk of sounding like a Guardian reader, isn't this one of the (few) cases where a speed camera might actually be a decent idea? I agree with all the other posters that if it was just a few guys with nice cars making nice noises then it would be OK, but if there genuinely are hundreds of little tits in HP'd Corsas going up and down then I can't really see an argument against the scamera.
On the other hand, I did thoroughly enjoy Ronaldo's tunnel crash...

Limehouse link is covered in CCTV and 6 Gatso's, northbound Blackwall SPECS at 30mph, sounthbound no speed cams but plenty of CCTV. Rotherhithe Tunnel SPECS controlled 20mph all the way through. On the other hand, I did thoroughly enjoy Ronaldo's tunnel crash...
How much more do you want??
To be fair though, it is a bit weird isn't it? Especially those who come all the way from other parts of the country just to drive through a few short urban tunnels. It's the automotive equivalent of standing on a platform collecting train numbers.
Head off to the Alps for some proper tunnels.

My understanding of what an MP is meant to do, is to do what the people tell them to do, but all MP's seem to do, is tell us what we should do (I should write greetings cards...).
The worst thing about the article is that if you have ever been to Poplar or Limehouse (or essentially anywhere in East London) then there are things that are so much more important for their MP to be dealing with. This is an area where gun and knife crime happen on a daily basis, social inequality between rich and poor is huge and even the police will tell you that many estates are no go areas. This MP needs to get a grip and dealing with noisy cars should be last on a very long list of things that he needs to sort out.

People who love cars & appreciate them, are a minority. It is very easy to legislate against petrolheads overnight.
As I mentioned in the "200 street racers get banned topic" its Joe Public who cannot differentiate between genuine enthuiasts and street racing teretto's.
Brake & other charities are forever putting the pressure on the government/police & they will do anything possible to get votes.
I use to love dropping a gear in my 997 gt3 with sport mode, the noise really wish I had recorded it, as have sold the car, but the sound!
Some thinking is required, where we can enjoy our cars in peace & that may mean embracing other members of the motoring society i.e the teretto's to educate them & whoever else causes havoc on the roads, endangers public safety, as the stes have brought their problems to our doorstep !

The NIMBYs need to realise that people have been mucking about in cars since cars were invented, whether it's a yoof in a blinged up Corsa or a middle aged insomniac in a mid-life-crisis, meets are just easier to organise now thanks to modern technology so they tend to get too popular too quickly.
Banning them won't stop them so accept the fact that they're going to happen and give them somewhere to do it using a bit of lateral thinking.

I thought this was going to be an article about people going for a jog through the tunnels of East London. I'm obviously falling behind on my "street" lingo.
The article comes from the Evening Standard. Its not the first time that this newspaper has written a ridiculous, sensationalist, one sided, unethical and provocative "story".
