Meh, half of the night is spent sitting in traffic at arena if you go to miss banzai. Shopping centre runs are the new big thing, they raise more money too..

I have been on a couple of tunnel runs in the past, one with alfaowner and the other was organised by myself and some freinds. Its a great night out for petrolheads. Certainly in the runs we have done, there is no racing, speeding or aggressive driving, and we are all of younger generation. As some have said the cameras and speed limits enforced in these tunnels mean its impossible to speed or race.
This guy is an idiot, and would only be waisting police time on a weekend when they could be arresting criminals and picking up drunks off the streets. One of the last ways of enjoying your car legaly on the road and this numpty wants it bvanned. I also know that in the past tunnel runs have raised alot of money for charity.
When i have been on runs we have spoken to police in the area and they were happy with what we were doing, and enjoyed looking at the cars. Its best we do this thatn go out fighting on a night out or breaking into houses.
People should write to the paper and this MP and invite them along to a run too prove we are not "chavvy, lunatic street racers"
What a complete Mug!
Long live the tunnel run

fatboy18 said: If this MP for the Docklands area is moaning now, can you imagine how upset he will be if Mr Ecclestone gets his way holding an F1 meet at the forma Olympic site! That should give the residents something to think about and wile i'm on the subject, what about all the bloody planes that run up the Thames estuary on their approach to Heathrow and Docklands Light airport? they make a hell of a lot more noise throughout the night and day! Excactly. No doubt he,ll sod off back to Scotland if the F1 happened. But that could go ahead ,no questions asked because it would make a lot of money. What about all the noise from these F ing fireworks for bonfire (night) that has lasted 2weeks !

Fireworks? It's east London, they're used to the sound of explosions around there, they hardly even notice.

Whilst I am not much of a fan of MP's in general, and Labour ones in particular, you have to consider he personally probably couldn't give any more of a damn about "Tunnel Runs" than I do, but is paid to represent the views and opinions of his constituents, however narrow minded or unpopular to none local people they may be. Did I REALLY just defend a Labour MP there? Oh dear..... Getting soft People have got a kick from making a noise in echoing locales from the stone age. Must be something in the genes.

E-mailing/ FBing him probably won't work. Apparently some (or is that all?) MPs never even read mail from their constituents. That's what the PA is for.

Lets be honest, society says things such as; Alcohol is bad for you smoking is bad for you sex is bad for you eating is bad for you breathing is bad for you et al, In fact if you can think of it some tw#t will have a completely opposit point of view, especialy if it is an activity enjoyed by (mostly) young people, why is it the more noteable persons in our societies always believe that by stamping out fun, they will win a seat on the council or something else as blinkered, slightly powerful and totaly archaic. All motorists are screwed every wich way they can be and get bu##er all in return, instead of saying "ban the noisy b ds", how about saying "this is a clash of age related cultures and we need to find an answere that will allow nimby's to sleep well and car enthusiasts to still have some fun, lets face it thay pay so much into the goverments coffers, fun should be a statuary right. And don't dismiss me as a yoof who has just passed their test, I am nearly 60yrs of age and for nearly all of those years all i can remember society doing is blaming everthing on young people, it's not the fault of todays young people that their elders had misserable childhoods and therefor think that if they couldn't have their fun then no subsequent youths should have any iether. I wander if anyone has thought of building some "HOONING" circuits on old industrial estates or the inner 'island' of an existing race circuit, I'll bet that if there is some money to be made then councils or philanthrapists would have a good look at such a scheme, just don't talk to only the nymby's talk to the motorists first.

I thinks it's very very important that we immediately ban or make illegal anything that i don't personally do or like. Which happens to include MPs..............
In that way we can suck all the fun out of life, and we can just all trudge along in our safe dreary lives until we die a long painful death in some dirty hospital bed, alone and having wished we were never born.

furtive said: I used to live close to the Limehouse Link tunnel and was occasionally woken up by the noise from "tunnel runs". The noise was annoying, especially if late at night or early in the morning so I can see why people have complained. wow - buys a house/flat near a major road and then complains at road noise... don't tell me you're planing to move near to Heathrow/Gatwick/Stansted and then complain about plane noise?

Bladedancer said: Funny thing... Just came back from far east, awash with fast, modified cars and people enjoying them. The funny bit is those countries have fewer accidents than UK. In fact, this morning an idiot in a completely standard Golf TDI tried to push me off the road cause he couldn't be bothered to look in side mirror if the lane he wanted to go on was free. Or maybe it was difficult to see a brigh pair of Xenon lights? Horn didn't help, he just went over and almost side swept me.
So not only goverment and insurance nutters try to make my life less enjoyable by making it difficult for me to personalize my car but now they'll ban me for enjoying driving it?
See, if people were allowed to enjoy their cars on a daily basis they wouldn't have to resort to underground racing, tunneling or what-have-you. Plus a little bit more control over who gets the licence and A LOT more courtesy and awareness would be nice. Which countries in Far East did you have in mind- as far as I know only Japan has anything like an acceptable deaths on road figure- if any at all are'acceptable'? On the wider subject like everybody else I have enjoyed listening to my car echoing off a cliff face or whatever.Never where people live though- why should I have the right to annoy people for the sake of it ? It is a small island and maybe a little more tolerance- from both sides is required ? If I was regularly annoying people who didn't share my interest I wouldn't start moaning about bloody NIMBYs and the usal adolescent whingeing I might just think they had a point and stop doing it . Are residents being inconvenienced- as they were in SW1 by young middle eastern men showing off what exotica dad had bought them ? If nobody is being inconvenienced - carry on!
