What did it cost you to buy in the first place?

Yep mine was a hand me down from my Dad (it was his 3rd 928 over 30 odd years), and I've spent similar money

2.5k of Suspension and general maintenance
4.5k Respray (some of which needs correcting)
850 on A/C (which needs doing again)

Still need to redo the interior, which I'm expecting will probably be over 3k, and need to do an intake refresh and a couple of other bits and bobs.

By the time it's a mint car it will probably have cost me over 10k, but then it was in such poor nick it was probably only worth 6 or 7 when I started!!

Considering it was a project car that's not too bad. Over my 5 year ownership I spent just under £15k. That included consumables too such as tyres, brakes, insurance but not fuel.

I did have a few big bills though. Had a hole in the inlet manifold and managed to get a mint secondhand manifold for approx £100 and earlier this year I took the car to Dr Paul and had £3k worth of work done as I was driving down to south of France. (same work done at London Indie would've been closer to £6k)

This included, replacing engine mounts, do sump gasket, replace A/C condensor (had a hole in), full set of plugs, leads, coils etc (still on original set after 100k and 19 years old), two new front tyres as alignment incorrectly done (was for S4 not GTS and had prematurely worn out inside edge) and a few other things which I can't remember. Had cambelt done earlier in the year too.

Car drove beautifully for 2500 miles through France and never missed a beat. They're great cars.

I've also got some interesting 928 GTS parts if anyone is interested, PM me.

A custom installed Subwoofer in the spare wheel, pair of wing mirrors, rear luggage blind/cover, ECU's which sit in passenger footwell and some interior switches.

My friend Paul does have a talent for detailing. Dodo Juice named their machine polisher after him.

Waiting for some decent weather to detail my new steed. A Jag XKR convertible smile

Have you driven one? I owned a 928 GTS for 5 years, fantastic car and they are far from boring under 100mph. Granted I had X-pipes and an RMB but the sound was glorious whether I was just cruising or hooning.
My 928 GT had X-pipes, RMB and de-cat: the sound was wonderful and totally addictive. The biggest thing I miss of many great things about the car. It was my only car for a 1 1/2 years, and the clutch was a touch heavy for driving around local South London rush hour, but not a problem.

My only complaint was the faster it went, the more solid it felt. North of 100 it just got better and better. Oh, the wind noise was a bit much compared to my genteel Alpina B10 V8 that replaced it.

Buy on service & owner history and budget £2K a year to keep it right.
Thats the same budget I allowed for my 964. They need that sort of money to keep them in fine fettle. If you get away with a couple of years only spending £1k then there will be a £3k bill in the 3rd year.......

Hard to get over to a know all ({}?T like u , the 928 was alright but that time has long gone, much prefer my Cayman s, or have you got four of those sat in the garden of your flat.

Mate, you're talking utter ste... One of the things the 928 is famous for is the first use of liner-less block made of alusil... Check your facts before coming across all authoritative...

FYI, I am on my 3d 928... I have built this little dry sumped gem with help from friends... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_W68SpSQMk&fea..., on top of that there is a GTS 5-spd identical to the one in the article sitting in my garage and next to it there is another 6.2 litre Porsche V8 engine being build as a spare for my GTS racer. I have also worked on a few more 928 engines than you have ever seen, even in picture format...

So, who is talking rubbish again?

And, btw, just in case you are still full of it... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alusil

I would suggest that it's better to be a know all than a know fk all, regardless of what he drives hehe

Apologies to all those attracted to a 928 but to me it always looked more than a little 'whale' shaped and I never understood the attraction.

That said, much more interesting/diverse than the current line-up of cars from Porsche.

No need to apologise. Looks are purely subjective. It's how I feel when I drive it that is the attraction for me smile

I'm currently looking to buy a diesel for winter use so I can get the 928 off the road and throw some more money at it. MOT due next month, wonder what else will pop[ up biggrin

Cracking looking car, probably my second favorite looking porsche of all time (after the 959). Very nice colour scheme too. Great car to tour france in I bet!!

Yeap, was in the region for a wedding and had a spare Saturday morning and drove up the mountain. Amazing place, very eerie.
