I know it's got decent power, but is it just me, or is that massively over-tyred in that pic?

Astons vauxhall have been knocking out pre-reg'd Estate VXR's for £25k for a while now.

0-60 and 0-100mph don't seem particularly amazing to me though.

So bar a top-speed that is quite high it's not exactly gonna feel that quick is it?

Still cheap and good VFM though...!

Slightly off topic but...

4WD but uses a Haldex v4 part-time system IIRC? Therefore, does it handle like a FWD car compared to something full-time like a Scooby or Audi S4?

Not that there's anything necessarily wrong with that, before the FWD-is-fine police arrive.

I loves me some cheep blue collared power, especially in big car form. 10k is a big saving over the audi, but the badge probably hurts to much these days.
Wish ford would do a mondeo like this too.....badge issues in the big car sector again i guess.

I like it. When i worked at vauxhall i liked it too. Vauxhall build quality and materials have improved greatly over the years imo.

Comparing it to a 135 is a little pointless - they are totally different cars. The insignia is 5 series size so for a fair comparison....

5 Series base model is the same price as this. Similar performing model is the 535i M Sport, currently at £42,255 and i'm sure it won't be as well spec'd in standard form (4WD anyone?)

My only gripe is the colour.. its a bit shouty and i don't think that does Vauxhall any good with their image.

and in the interests of full disclosure - i currently drive an astra VXR. smile

or how about a fwd Vectra VXR 5 years old and with all the toys and better looking estate form for £6k and the same lusty turbo V6 engine as the Insignia.

Now thats better sense

Wrong badge
Wrong fuel

Sadly, true. But cracking buy used.
Oh, is it diesel then? I thought it was petrol.

Aye, first thing that occurred to me too.

There's low-profile and there's low-profile, and then there's bicycle wheels. Looks silly they're so thin.

Otherwise, don't think the looks are at all bad.

Also, 325bhp and a 0-60 time of only 5.6 secs. Where has that power gone? The thing heavy? Crap chassis that can't put it down?

If you take the rear wing off a Focus Rs Mk2 it will nudge 170mph..

0-62 in 5.6 is not that quick for an AWD 325 bhp machine. An Audi S4 Costs £10,000 more, well what do you expect it is easily a £10,000 better car.

The perfomance is on par with a £5000 1994 BMW M3 and not even the EVO one as that will still hit 60 in 5.0 dead.

If this had 400 BHP, could hit 60 in 4.0 and had a top end of 180 and was more hardcore, I would be more keen on it. All that and a 35k price would be well worth it.

Yes it will. If you drop a house brick off a high rise it will also probably nudge 170mph

Finally a decent comparison. The audi is 0.6 seconds quicker to 60 and £10k more expensive - that makes this insignia pretty good value (which i think is the point of the thread)

where the car weighs half as much, doesn't have any of the safety features, any of the toys and is 18 years old.

Performance is also on par with a £2500 2003 Yamaha R1 - equally irrelevant

And you'd then compare it to an £8000 2005 Jag S-Type V8, wouldn't you smile

Yep, diesel car sales account for over 50% of the UK market. I think he meant from a general public sales perspective rather than a Petrol Head's.

Anyway, it'll be no fun to drive as FWD! :P
