Indeed, who knows or cares? The absolute "I do what I want and could not care less" demonstrated in such a illegal and wholly inappropriate plates really sums up the downright selfishness in such adornments. This thread has demonstrated time after time that illegal and unreadable plates are on the increase and it is time the authorities stopped this business. Given the love of politicians of additional income I am surprised they do not massively increase the fines and consequences. They should and this would stop overnight.
But it may well severely harm the sales of "Cherished Plates" by the DVLA.Magic919 said:
I don't find these plates are 'on the increase' at all. Near me I see a few chav numbers that are now displayed exactly correctly.
I don't buy the argument that it would affect sales of cherished numbers in any substantial way. Must be far less than 1% of the market. Any displayed plates represent numbers that have already been bought. Some folk will even go and buy a replacement when their plate gets taken away (if it ever happened).
IMO there is a marginal risk that the mainstream market for cherished plates would be affected but I really think this is minimaI in reality. I own a number of cherished plates all on my cars and all absolutely street legal. If the cherished plate market requires illegality to continue then it should not continue. My concern is with the total evasion of legality which these offending plates require to exist and have a value. Many are unreadable as examples show on here. That cannot be right. In just the same way I dislike blinding over bright headlights, noisy exhausts and illegal running lights fitted without any regard for other road users. I am all for self expression but only if it is legal and safe.I don't buy the argument that it would affect sales of cherished numbers in any substantial way. Must be far less than 1% of the market. Just for the record these plates which you can love or hate 99% will have been sold direct from DVLA and they started to sell them in Dec 1989 which to date has generated £1.6 billion.....! + the millions of transfer/retention fees.....! So I think it's safe to say this and any future government quite like personalized number plates.......

JOSIE WD
At least that's what my eyes told me I'd seen.
'Twas actually JO51 EWD illegally dispplayed as JO51E WD - on a Renault Megane Dynamique+ Cabrio in Berkshire somewhere between Wokingham and Hurst.
The car looked like it had some hard miles on it, as did the driver, a woman well into 'middle age' with a massive bouffant of white-blond hair.

I am sure they love them and the revenue they generate - But i am sure every time they sell one they think 'mug' especially when they know someone is going to bdize the plate to make it read something it actually isn't...Edited by CRA1G on Tuesday 15th April 16:16
I once bought the wife a Mercedes CLK - It had the number plate 'V34 ELK' and i just knew someone had once f@#ked around with the E to make it look like V34 CLK.... hence the plate went very quickly (no doubt to a CLK owner)
I had 'B10 JJJ' on my Alpina B10 Touring and it bugged the S@#T out of me.... I was just about able to cope with 'N31 BOO' on my Daimler but only because the car was originally N-Registered.
I do really really loath personal/private plates with the exception of 'short plates' that are not trying to spell a word.
'458 FHT' on something random would be a nice plate
'458 FER' on a Ferrari 458 would be naff

Agreed - I am all in favour of the government taking as much money as possible off people who want these plates. It would be good if they could make even more by fining the daft tossers for mucking about with 'em too.

Hat trick yesterday - 3 Chavplates in a row in faaaakin Sraaaafend.
There's two - both on Mercedes funnily enough - I can see right now. S111YVE and K1M DR*
- I have no idea if the owner actually is a doctor. I do know she parks like her brain stopped working some while ago and that she works at a medicial establishment offering clinical refurbishments like botox and facelifts to orange Mutton in an attempt to turn it back to pink Lamb.

Two complete cretin plates in the last couple of days:
YE 11 OME spaced and 'fonted' illegally to look like 'YELLO ME' - seriously, WTF?
And WH 05 ADR, again illegal font and spacing: 'WHOS A DR'. All I can say is if they're so stupid that they think this is good, I really wouldn't want to be treated by them.
