Just found an advert in Autocar from September 1973:"We have the largest and the best indexed stock in the UK of registration marks available for transfer. [snip]. We also have a stock of christian names like DON, LEE, LES ... and of various amusing marks, the best being ... PEN 15, which is our directors registration. Telephone us day or evening, seven days a week, and keep trying if the line is busy. [snip]. None of our numbers cost less than fifty pounds, and they range up to one thousand pounds.
Abracadabra Registrations".
Used to be Steve Parrish's plate at one time

Two more CAC (Crappy Audi Chavplates).......
Generally German cars - and Range Rovers - seem to be the principal weapon of choice for Chavplaters. You only need to flip back through this thread and the two preceding ones to see that this is so.Here in the Essex Badlands it's an everyday occurrence to see several examples of both displaying a illegal plate.
That should tell you everything you need to know.

Although to be fair I am convinced there are an increasing number of 'Aldis' bearing such hideous chavplates...hence my CAC nomination.....illustrated perfectly by my last Fridays post on page 243...
G H12TON.
May be something to do with currently cheap finance on these perhaps...
By coincidence, only yesterday said CAC was waiting to exit a side road as I slowly drove past....I delighted in not letting the CAC out much to his annoyance....childish, yes, but also very satisfying...

Number plates are meaningfull in the eyes of the beholder. Last week my neighbour (lucky sod) had his Harley delivered. I said to the OH "Look at the plate on that van", to which she said :
"H(15) HOG, daft if you ask me.......... I pointed out is was read as "His Hog", might as well have talking rocket science in Norweigan..

That plate is legal, appropriate and is "Real Good""H(15) HOG, daft if you ask me.......... I pointed out is was read as "His Hog", might as well have talking rocket science in Norweigan..

Not quite legal actually, sorry!
The plate size is indeed covered by an exemption for American imports, and the colouring is legal for the age, but the font and text size are not legal.
The American car magazines have covered this subject a few times. I ran 'California' plates for some time
on a Camaro with no hassle but could still have been pulled.
By the way, I still think it suits the car :P

And, moreover has qualified for promotion to the real good thread by resisting the temptation to 'chav up' and 'crap up' said plate by illegally morphing the 5 into an S......."yes"

I did wonder whether the plate was actually legal in that format and I welcome the clarification. I thought the font and size was suspect and so it would appear they are. Why anyone would want to use illegal pates on a registered motor vehicle I do not understand. Incidentally I read elsewhere on PH in the m/cycle posts that the fines have been increased to £100 per offence. Does anyone know if that is correct and does it apply to cars?
