My bad!
Not quite legal actually, sorry! biggrin
The plate size is indeed covered by an exemption for American imports, and the colouring is legal for the age, but the font and text size are not legal.

The American car magazines have covered this subject a few times. I ran 'California' plates for some time
on a Camaro with no hassle but could still have been pulled.

By the way, I still think it suits the car :P
Thanks for clearing that up. Wondered how the font could be legal with problems of speed cameras reading letters and numbers etc smile

And I agree it suits the car, but the law is the law I suppose

I very much doubt that plate can be read by cameras which no doubt is the objective of the owner. Apart from the height and deliberate misplacing the Y looks very obscured to me. Not good but certainly on the right thread!

Made me smile, the motto of our navy submariners is "We come unseen", usually referred to as

"We come unclean", the old subs didn't exactly have top of the range bathrooms.

I would suggest you would have to be extremely unlucky to get a tug for this. Virtually every old US import I have seen uses plates like this; it's extremely close to legal, and just looks 'right'. I know there are puritans on here, but FFS we are supposed to be looking for crap...I just can't get excited about this.

Quite. I have never understood the nonsense plates/makeyouownnumberup/addaloadofblinding lights/chopthe suspensionoff/fitdaftwheelstoobigtoowideundriveable combinations that seem to appeal to certain types. Just cannot see the point because it is dreadful to look at and generally makes driving harder. Why?? Oh why??

I stand corrected - it is in fact my bad! My yanks have legal UK plates, I knew there was an exemption for size (in fact I think you need to show you can't practically fit the plate at larger than US size), but I hadn't spotted the font issue.

Not recently, far from it in fact, but I did see PEN15 on a red Merc 190 about 20 years ago :-)
That belongs to motoring writer and ex-racer Steve Parrish.

There was 1980 a Fiat Panda in Droitwich in the 80's that had 4 COF.
I saw 1 BUY on a 5-series.= in Kidderminster.
I met a Terry Foster who had TF05TCR. His wife, Diane had DF05TCR. Open the gap before the F and put a black bolt in the C for F05TER.
