C15 ALD - on a Mini convertible spotted today driving into the car park at Frimley Park Hospital.

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to how this was butchered, and what it was displayed as?

For those who cannot be bothered guessing...L15A LD with two yellow screw covers apparently glued over the top arc of the 'C' and a massive gap between the 'A' and the 'L'.

No, because if I was to do such a thing, I'd almost certainly be introduced to a Policeman who had suddenly found that there was no 'proper' crime to solve that day, and I'd be 'done' for criminal damage.

But secretly, yes, I'd like to be a superhero, something like "The Masked Number Plate Avenger". I'd have a cape, with BS AU 145d lettering and an EC Council Regulation 2411/98 Union Flag on it, and a Transit Connect van with a plate making machine in the back. Then I'd travel the length and breadth of this (once) great nation of ours, removing and destroying butchered and illegal plates, and replacing them with completely standard, fully compliant ones wink

It's not all that difficult, after all. On https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploa...

the DVLA Inf 104 Vehicle registration numbers and number plates leaflet said:
Standard font
On 1 September 2001, new regulations introduced a
standard font (style of lettering) for number plates, making
them easier to be read. This change ended the use of
italics and other styles of lettering that are difficult to read.

For vehicles with new or replacement number plates
fitted from 1 September 2001, registration numbers
can no longer be shown over three lines (unless the
vehicle was first registered before 1 January 1973).
Also, the letters and numbers (characters) on number
plates bought since 1 September 2001 will need to
meet the following standards.

* Characters must be 79mm tall
* Characters (except the number 1 or letter I) must be 50mm wide
* The character stroke (the thickness of the black print) must be 14mm
* The space between characters must be 11mm
* The space between the age identifier and the random letters must be 33mm
* The margins at the top, bottom and side of the plate must be 11mm
* Vertical space between the age identifier and the random numbers must be 19mm
...and the damned leaflet is Crystal Marked by the Plain English Campaign, so you'd have to be spectacularly stupid, or just plain arrogant to bluff that you "didn't know the rules".

I agree i think all plates are crappy but for the thread, it's about ones that are butchered or misplaced.

M155 RED

are you saying that there was an i where their should have been the number one ?
Bloody hell this is hard work!!!! Are you for real???
When you don't explain the full story then it shouldn't be a surprise when people ask you for more details.

av185 said:
Okay I will SPELL it out for you then.

Its crappy AND illegal mainly because the 55 has been butchered to an SS to read MISS.

Capisce?
You are the one that's hard work!

'the 55 has been butchered to an SS' ?

you mean they've actually used two S's instead of the 5 ?

An S is not a butchered 5, its an S.

So, to clarify and to avoid all future confusion..

the plate is M ONE FIVE FIVE (m155) but they have had it made with M I S S (all letters) ?

the other solution is to take a picture, like most others do smile

Also, anyone with a 'OOOx GAV or whatever shyte plate is an attention seeking vanity plater probably with a personality disorder. All most people think on seeing such crappy plate is OOO. SHIcensoredyes Maybe not illegal......but certainly shyte and therefore a crappy plate.
Agreed, as already stated in my previous post.
For what it's worth I'm with you on this...I couldn't see what the issue was exactly

But seriously the way some guys on here get worked up over nothing is a joke......Need to get a life.... springs to mind
