I saw something like J7UKC on a white Nissan Juke, and they had used a black screw within the "C" to make it look like an "E".

I know someone that wanted a plate to match his name, but couldn't afford one......so he just had one made and stuck it on anyway........ I had a go at him about it, but looking at this thread, seems it's what a lot of folk do.....just put what you want on and away you goyes

That does indeed seem to becoming a more common approach. At some point presumably either the law will be upheld effectively or a fair few more drivers will opt out of bothering with the law. The super car threads about suggesting that approach, implies that somethng is afoot.

Another clever one I've seen is the miniturisation of some of the letters/numbers to make the plate look much more expensive than it really is, for example displaying the number plate 'THB 216Y' as 'HB 1' by displaying the T,2,6 & Y in a 1mm font. I've seen this a couple of times and it has many benefits. Firstly by doing this any average chav kid can display a plate that looks like it cost £250k on his corsa or fiesta etc. Secondly any ANPR generated fines/points will land on the door mat of someone who is likely much better placed to deal with them! Any plate with a '1' in it is fair game, it's the future! wink

A CRILLY on a Range Rover in Camberley. Based on the use of 2 black caps next to the last 2 "L"'s i assume the plate is probably ACR 111Y.

an acquaintance has been bought misspaced plates by her boyfriend. They slightly nearly vaguely spell her name and I pointed out that it was illegal but I didn't know the potential penalty.
Quite useful really.

It tells the woman that her boyfriend is stupid before the relationship goes any further.

He has done her a favour.

I do understand that some supercars are simply not designed to take a front plate. It's stupid, but clearly the looks are all important!

Question - are stick-on plates for the bonnet still legal? I had one on an MX5 (actually a Jap Eunos import) (1990) and it looked a lot better than the UK spec plate holder - the Mk1 MX5 had a lovely curved nose that the plate holder ruined.
I don't think they ever were legal. The stick on plates fitted by the factory to the early E-types were a source of intense irritation to the authorities if my memory serves me correctly.
Stick on number plates are perfectly legal, providing the sizing/spacing requirements of the Display of Number Plate Regulations is adhered to, and the background is retro-reflective to BA AU 145d. In regards to mounting, the DofNP Regs state the plate must be mounted 'as vertical as practically possible', therefore if there is no numberplate plinth, the plate can be stuck onto a bonnet or bumper.
Thanks Shakotan, that's really useful. Here's the solution for otherwise 'difficult' supercars then!

A4 vert in Halifax the other day with something like MUIIFG or something completely random. Obligatory "I can't afford a meaningful plate" note underneath it "Manchester United". Sad... really sad.

SC07T TJ white F-Type 3.0 V6, Hawley/Farnborough area this afternoon, and

E1 8OND black Mini Cooper Clubman 1.6, Hawley/Yately area also this afternoon.

Neither as shocking as some of the butchered halfwittery seen on this thread, but deserving of a mention, just the same...

Why? Why? indeed

Why? Why ever not? Nice looking plate, and 100% legal too.

I would have it.

Best regards

Yvonne Yates.
Dear Yvonne, Why on earth would you want to drive around with your initials on the car?
Why not? If you just don't like personalised plates full stop, this is not the thread for you - that plate would go happily in the Real Good thread. We are after illegal chavvery here!
I love this thread. It is my fave.

Illegal chavvery, yes.
But as I have posted many times before, we love to see, and laugh at, the vanity, low self esteem and insecurities of any driver with a personal plate, chav or otherwise.
