RE: Ferrari says: what crisis?
Discussion
I think that the so called Ferrari tat is just that TAT, and it most certainly does tarnish the image by reducing the desirability of the cars, because it makes the name more common and cheapens it. But I can see why they do it, I saw some Ferrari cufflinks in a jewellery shop in Antigua airport amongst the other tiepins etc, they were priced at 300 pounds, damn crazy I reckon, they are not TAG or Rolex and they dont look it either, I wonder how authentic they really are, I mean do they break after a short period and that sort of thing and require regular expensive servicing at local approved jewellers. Having said the above I am still looking out for another 360 spider. mike

The local hifi shop now offers a range of Ferrari branded headphones to compete with Beats by Dr Dre et al...
No, the local electrical box shifter now offers a range of Ferrari branded headphones. It is surprising how faithful the Ferrari owners have been over the years though while they were introducing the F1 style technology. It will be interesting to see if the mid 90's Ferrari models with the paddle shift will become the front engined Porsche of the vintage Ferrari models?
This just adds salt into the wound that they never had this in RHD huh

No real surprise that Lotus are down 52% what with their uncanny ability to push customer confidence of the brand lower by each passing week. The sooner they decide what the hell they want to do the better for all...
So far this year SAAB have registered more new cars in the UK than Lotus and they went bust this time last year. (231 v 122)Mr Behr has a lot to answer for.
Ferrari build desired cars but don't forget they're also incredible marketers. They'd sell you Ferrari fuel at a 30% premium if they had half the chance. In fact I'm surprised they haven't marketed Maranello Air. The point is they are brilliant sales people. The mass market marques build ok cars but positively wring their hands at the idea of selling. Far too mucky. Leave it to the dealer network. Social media? Never heard of it. Customer feedback/follow up? You're having a laugh. What separates Ferrari from many other marques isn't just what they build. It's their focus and expertise at squeezing every penny of revenue from every potential sale. And they keep the purchase funnel well stocked with eager buyers ready to wait. As for the "tat", it has zero effect on the brand because Ferrari know very well their audience splits into those who want and can, and those who want and dream.
Did not Ferrari tat start with the 400/412 then 348 & 456 Cars? Only since the 355 & 430 have they excelled at high number manufacturing with reliability and desirability. Old cars are prized because they didn't make many and they are more beautiful. Ferrari merchandising is not worthy of a prestige name but it doesn't seem to affect car sales, so they will continue to make money at this. The 12 cylinder cars are mostly poor designs these days, the last good one was the Daytona the rest look like Pixcar creations, new designers required and at McLaren if the P1 continues the 12C look of blandness.
Well it's hard to sell cars when you drop all your model lines
For a period they had just the 1.6 Elise, and the Evora, that was bound to send sales tunbling as the 111r and S/C Varients with 190hp and 220hp were there biggest sellers in the Elise range
Sales of the 135hp toyota 1.8 were hardly on fire, and that was before they decided to put in an even less powerful 1.6, the fact the Exige seems to be late/in limbo is not helping either
Lotus sales have crashed since the 190hp high reving yota engine stopped being sold

I'm sure I've mentioned this before but I used to work with a company that was a Ferrari brand licensee. In 2006 they had over 200 licensees and even they recognised that this was too many. The goal was apparently to reduce this to just under 100 by 2008! Ferrari draw a clear distinction between the 'fanboy' products (hats, keyrings, baby romper suits, etc.) aimed at the average Joe and the licensed products aimed at the car owners. I don't believe anyone else draws this distinction, though, so it's hard to look at this stuff as anything other than brand prostitution. The big problem is that it is immensely profitable for them and turning down money in this climate is a tough thing to do. The clear message in 2006 from the Brand & Licensing department was "fewer licensees, better quality" but then a certain Mr. Bahar took over and that all went to pot.
"Ferrari's overall sales in Europe are flat"
Well thats the truth behind the headline then the 'home' local markets are flatline, given how much investment / new cars have gone on over the last 24 months and that fact you can't launch three new cars every year, i would still be worried.
Standing still is going backwards.
