This thread really is very amusing.

AM know they are only going to sell these to footballers, WAGs and business men. This is why it looks like a chavved up DB9, because that is exactly what the target market want.

Whether it has 575bhp of 1000bhp is only relevant so Wayne Rooney can boast to John Terry that his car is more powerful than theirs, there is no way that you can use more than a tiny fraction of any modern supercars performance anywhere other than a few stretches of autobahn in Germany. These will hardly ever be used on track but mostly for sitting in traffic in central london so whether the gearbox has 6 or 8 speeds is equally irrelevant.

All that really matters with a car like this is that it makes a nice noise, looks shiny and fast, costs a little bit more than the competition for bragging rights and can be driven safely by imbeciles. Sadly this means it lacks any of the class of the Astons of old but this is a reflection on today's society rather than any commercial or design mistakes made by Aston Martin.

I don't think it's wide of the mark in the slightest.

Some utter bks floating around in here, most of it by people who never driven a car of this type, let alone an Aston I'll wager!

A few months ago while car shopping, I was lucky enough to take the DBS and Virage out for an afternoon, both with the 6 speed auto. I hate Autos and was suprised at how good the box was, and how effortless you could cruise, yet with an amazing turn of speed when wanted, and a good sound.
An 8 speed auto is perfect for a deisel audi (as a co-worker has) or similar barge where the engine is all but silent, torquey but the last thing you want to do is rev the nuts off it. You wouldn't even know it was cycling through the gears like there is no tomorrow unless you looked at the tacho.

A big V12 that you can hear full well (and want to) would do my head in droning through the gears, finding a new one every second, and the more gear ratios you have the worse it'll get untill you're into CVT territory. Good for fuel consuption but no one will say it sounds anything other than bloody aweful!

I still find joy in the fall and rise of sound with revs and gears. not like an F1 car which is mi, mi, mi, mii.
A lot of petrol heads do. Now a different argument may be that the shifts aren't snappy enough, but that's a personal preferance, and not my one for wafting in a sports GT.

Interior: While I don't like the Black and Tan Wheel combo, I find the interior of Astons to be extreamly nice. Luxurious but still sporty and a bit of british understatedness, just as they should be. They are not a flashy italian or a boring german, they are though quite nice I think.

The power: I have a car with 350hp from an NA 6 cylinder, and it is very lairy on the road. It's a lot of power but it's mostly fun and only really scares me in adverse weather. I have another car, with a NA V12, which has 510hp and while I'm used to it, it's still more than enough and I almost never, NEVER can use full throttle in a legal way, and below 50mph, you can light up the TC warning in most gears whist also catching the que in front up at a worrying rate. I'd like a go in a more powerfull car, just to see, but I'd be amazed if anything more than 500hp was actually usable in most of the worlds roads (without risking your licence) especially in a 2wd car.

Sometimes too much is barely enough. Other times it's just too much.

Sadly misinformed, good troll though rolleyes
my thought exactly. what current jag has a V12 for starters!?
I was refering to the looks. Its boring/old/been done whatever you wish to call that design guide they follow over at aston.

They used to be a highly desirable car but you only need to look at the old dog and see that its trying so very hard to learn this new trick.

As I said previously I would take the aventador over this, I would most likely take a 612 over this also. If you think thats trolling then I suggest you also point the finger at everyone else who decides that the aston is not for them. Will keep you busy enough to stop branding someone a troll because they express their opinion.

Have a nice day

do current Astons and indeed the Vanquish still have that message that pops up on ignition with Power, Beauty Soul or whatever claptrap it was. I cant fathom why but I was going to buy a DB9 a few years back and this put me off so much ( the word wky marketing dept sprang to mind) that I bought a 575 instead.

I cannot stand the idea of the marketing guys running the show.
What a load of utter bks. You didn't buy a car because it has a message when you start it? A message that you don't even see all of it unless you just put the ECU in and don't start the engine rolleyes

And no it doesn't say it on the newer cars.
So in mounting a spirited defense of embarrassing bks, you opt not to call the key a key, and go for ECU instead. You are at least consistent.

The looks are boring? You what? What do you drive that's so amazingly pretty then? And R32 golf by any chance? They look similar because the sane designer designed them. An aventador is a different ball park for cars, one's a GT car, the other a supercar

I love the looks of the Vanquish, but why don't they put a proper floor hinged accelerator pedal on them? I hate those nasty no feel pedals, drove a friends V8V and couldn't feel the pedal under my foot and it ruined the experience.

Can anyone explain to me why this would be bottom-line-"better" than a DB9??

What does "ECU" mean? In Aston lingo, that would be "Emotion Control Unit" or something similar ridiculous?

Just imagine "Arbeit macht frei" in your Volkswagen, or "Vorsprung durch Technik" in your Audi" or, "Muskulöse Geschäftsführer mit Kinnbart haben einen großen Aal" in your Mercedes. Simply annoying, and even more in a car like a DB9 which really does not need any driver brainwashing to make it feel special.

I wanted a DB9, have wanted one for some time. Finally got the money together and went to drive one.
Started it up and drove about and questioned the start up message with the Sales guy.

It genuinely put me off so much that it put me off the car and I went and looked at other options. I dont know why, it was not rational, however having that message flashing up was to me extrenely tacky and it would have spoilt the ownership experience. For me it made me feel like the car was more of fashion accessory with too much input from marketers than the Aston experience I was expecting.(...)
That's the most pathetic reason for not buying a car I have ever heard.
