I've got one of these and they really are a wonderful car, very reliable and usable, and build like a bank vault. I love them so much I'd like to score an E60. Mine keeps up with the W210 E55 AMG and as far as I know is standard except for the speed limiter being removed.

In addition to SOTW I nominate this as the first candidate for the upmarket version.. GOTW (Gazebo of the week).

Great cars. Still fast - bit slippy in the rain.

Looking at Mercland - what stands out - what a top school run car this would be...

So cheap. Less than the hopeless custom shop strat I have right here. Fender just can't make guitars any more!

Glorious. I always adored my W124 Mercedes 200TE - the thought of a saloon version, and one with a considerable improvement in the engine bay just puts a huge smile on my face. I love it.

A friend had a 500E some years back. That comment about "why is everyone else going so slowly ?" sums it up perfectly. A very comfortable and relaxing way to travel quickly, and it'll really hustle if you want to. I'd love one

I'd love one of these but couldn't live with the LHD element. What's the most powerful engine that came in this shape Merc in RHD?
The E36 which was a 3.6 litre version of the E320, available in convertible and estate forms (not sure about coupe and saloon). However, they're as rare as hen's teeth mainly I think because they were very expensive when new. I think there was also an E34 which was based on the earlier E300 but I'm not sure if that was available in RHD.

This is the worst thing I've ever seen on PH - I'm getting a bit of cash from a house sale.... please please let it be sold before that cash comes in!!!!!!!

I'm a total coward but this is my dream car!!

You could get the E36 in all the 124 body styles - I did a story in a former life on a guy who had one of each. A wagon would do very nicely thank you! Very rare cars though, especially in the UK. I'll have to dig out the article to find out which was the most scarce but IIRC it might have been the saloon.

A friend of mine had one of these, fantastic machine and totally under the radar. Shame he had to sell it.

Agreed on both counts. Mileage is pretty good though (64k)

Yep, if wasn't for the tax complications it would be a great flydrive home adventure.

Oh, and can you imagine the palava discussing the model type with the insurance company? Gonna need some patience and stamina for that phone call.

Think those are however the standard AMG wheels it would have been fitted with by AMG.

No doubt, shame as it loses the sleeper appeal.
