RE: Time For Tea? Imprezas on the attack
Discussion
I still recall my first drive in a mates Impreza WRX in 1999, a 1995 4 door in Red, absolutely fell in love with it, however they were well outwit my reach at the time, i was only 18 and had a poorly paid job in Jewsons
Fast forward a few years and i had my first Impreza, a Turbo 2000, absolutely loved it, however i came across the car by accident (my mate needed a cheaper car to insure so swapped him for an A3 TDi) and insuring the Impreza longterm alongside an E46 M3 wasn't cheap so it had to go
I bought another Turbo 2000 around 3 months ago, a wagon, and i fell in love all over again, quite simply the best sub £1000 car i have EVER had, unfortunately i sold it on wednesday as we are relocating for a while, i will be buying another when we return, hopefully an STI wagon

I'm flabbergasted at the seriously high quality of cars being displayed on this thread. That Prodrive WRC car...Wow!! Looks good enough and ready to do TA, TOTB, SSO etc... How much please!!
Subaru WRC Spares currently have a RHD gravel spec. S5 Impreza (the '99 season car) for sale...http://www.subaruwrcspares.com/resources/S10+SRT+s...
...yours for £75K!
I can't remember where I originally saw the thread on that black 22B conversion (I think it was NASIOC), but I'm sure its based on an Impreza RS, not a Type R.

Panel kit supplied by Aerosim and based on the WRC panels rather than the 22B, hence the arch profiles look better than the genuine 22B items.
Before you guys dream about running WRC cars, don't forget, engine, 'box/front diff, rear diff rebuilds are required every 1000Kms/600 miles (miss the engine build deadline at your peril . . . .) Add in damper, driveshaft, clutch and wheel bearing rebuilds and things get a tad expensive . . . .
While all these 22b\wide arch conversions look lovely, I wouldn't dream of putting a fibreglass bodykit on a car which I intended to drive. It's fine if it's a show and shine car but any car which gets used properly will see that fibreglass body disintegrate within a year which is why any decent bodyshop worth their salt won't want to touch them with a barge pole.
Fibreglass bodykits should be left to the Corsa brigade IMO.

Haha! As Slippydiff points out though...That's the sort of thing that would ruin a man beyond the grave. Where do i sign?

...this is why ownership (and the running of) a WRC Impreza remains a post-lottery win dream!A 22B remains my "realistic"(ish) Impreza ownership dream for now!

Is that definately the car in those pictures? Ha, I'm actually subscribed to that thread over on NASIOC: I thought that car was still work in progress, I didn't know it was that black car from those pictures! I've owned 22B #301 for 5 years now. Its my 4th impreza, and the best without question.
And I use mine daily (I average 8 klm's a day only though over a full year). No issues with bending it, thats what insurance is for should the worst happen.
I love the comments from people in the know, too. I'd hate to own a rep mobile; better off dead.

I completely agree these cars are for driving, not being parked in a garage! And I use mine daily (I average 8 klm's a day only though over a full year). No issues with bending it, thats what insurance is for should the worst happen.

I've come from rep mobile land ('09 Golf TDI) and my love my RB5!

Trouble with imprezas its the number running stupid chav exhausts.
What other way to run a Scooby?Too many cheap naff ones that make a farty thud thud sound even at low revs/throttle and often made to be as loud as possible.
Not against a nice exhaust sound. Heard an air cooled 911 with a nice tubi exhaust a couple of years ago. Quite muted when manovering, but had a lovely bark when opened up with a tingly crackle on the overrun.

With a decent Prodrive pipe or some of the more 'grown up' ones. Mine could not be called quiet, but it sounded so much nicer than the blitz Nur pipe.
My Scoob (an '05 STi) had a Cobra Sport system fitted when I bought it, which I ditched because I didn't like the look of it and it droned really badly on the motorway. I switched to a STi titanium backbox and, although it was a lot more subtle, it only really sounded like a Scoob at higher revs. Part of the appeal of the Scoob (for me) had been the boxer grumble of the Group A cars so, after much deliberation, I went for a Nur Spec R (oddly enough, I'm sure I drove everywhere faster when it was quieter).
My Scoob is still catted, so its not stupid loud: but you can tell its a flat four, thats for sure!

Was the Nur Spec R the one with the bung ? Might have made a mistake with which exhaust was always the choice for those who wanted to wake up the neighbours every morning.I switched to a STi titanium backbox and, although it was a lot more subtle, it only really sounded like a Scoob at higher revs. Part of the appeal of the Scoob (for me) had been the boxer grumble of the Group A cars so, after much deliberation, I went for a Nur Spec R (oddly enough, I'm sure I drove everywhere faster when it was quieter).

Some Impreza systems were cheap, nasty and Very loud even at tickover and I dislike the people who drive around estates with stupidly noisy systems being so antisocial. My STi had the Prodrive STi back box and it was subtle(ish) at tickover and slow speed building to a nice rumble & bark when pushed.
If you want a system that guarantees a smooth and sweet throbbing rumble right the way through the rev range you've got to be looking at either a Miltek or a Hayward & Scott system. Yes they are expensive but these products are of superb quality and sound lovely. Stick to the factory pipe diameter and you won't go wrong.
