? Mrs Digga priced up a replacement for her BMW 320d M-Sport and it came out more expensive than the base-spec (but comparably-equipped) Evoque she bought, although that was before the last price rise. They are still comparable.
Fair enough, I just know that LR's website said they'd want over £200/mo more for equivalent spec. - too rich for my blood.

At that differential, and knowing the demand for Evoques, I didn't actually pursue it with a dealer as I assumed there wouldn't be much of a deal to be had.

Did they move on the list price much?

Why do you care about her having everything bought for her. You say you've never met her yet you know 'Its just a fashion accessory to her, she doesn't care about speed or reliability or any of the things people in the real world look for in a car.' That's all presumption and why does she have to care about speed. Most of my friends have no interest in speed, grip, handling etc.. How much juice it uses and will it be reliable yes...
Sounds more like it annoys you, jealous that he wealthy dad buys her a car she hassn't work for.
If your dad was wealthy and said Coldfuse my son, this is for you. Hands you the keys to a Lambo/McLaren/Porsche or whatever, you're not going to tear his hand off? Instead you're gonna say no I don't want it? They'll be a few that say they want to earn it... But most would be kissing his arse and be thankful for a dad like that.
Ah forget it, i can't be bothered. I don't like the evoque... laughlaughlaugh

What many seem to forget is that just because Tata own JLR, there are hundreds of smaller suppliers who are British and who are doing very well out of the Evoke's success. Whatever your opinion on the car, it's been a great success so far and provided many much needed jobs.

Sensible comments over with. For those haters out there - are you blind? The FL looks like a sack of junk compared to the Evoque - and I would wager, probably only slightly less capable off road. The Evoque just looks different and a far more modern design compared to most SUVs. Boring old trucks like Merc MLs or BMW X5s look staid in comparison. And if modern looks aren't to your taste - buy a Defender. Or a Merc G wagon (or whatever it's called now). JLR deserve credit for bring something different looking to the market.

And personally I'm neutral on VB but if her promotion helps shift motors, then good on it. If you're swayed by who or what is promoting a car then you're not really a true petrol head anyway and probably shouldn't be reading this forum. Buy it (or not) based on the merits of the vehicle in question, not on what you think someone might think of you.
You can justify it until you're blue in the face but you know deep down nothing shouts "I'VE GOT A VAGINA!" more than this car.

Love our Evoque. 7 months and 12k miles in I reckon it's excellent. Drives well, striking looks and full of toys. What more do you want? Ours was a 33 grand diesel rather than the 47k one on here. That's only the same as an X3 or Q5. We've also got an old Legacy estate to take the dogs out in or sh*t to the tip so who gives a stuff about the fact it's not as practical as a Disco. The 'buy a proper Range Rover' brigade make me laugh as well. They're twice the price ffs. Swap your A5 TDi for a 911 then!

Not an inch and why would they? This is also a question to ask with regard to clever/easy/cheap manufacturer-based finance. If they have to do it, then why?

FWIW prices also went up about £2k or so just before we bought. We and other early orders were obviously sold on launch prices. So they're not entirely mercenary. biggrin

If the Evoque is an Ewok does that make the FFRR the Death Star?.

Hmmm, Ewoks aren't on the Dark Side though are they? I'd have to see the FFRR as a Mon Calamari Cruiser and the RRS as the Millenium Falcon.

A Cadillac Escalade would be the Death Star biggrin

I would go with the FFRR as the Death Star, RRS a Star Destroyer, the Millenium Falcon would have to be a Defender-their both old, iconic but work when they have to!!.

Well the wife dragged me kicking and screaming to the landrover dealer to buy her a Freelander 2 ... It was a car I really didn't want to buy. Thoughts of cheap build quality unreliability run cold through my veins.

However now owning it for 3 months (just) and driving it on the odd occasion I have to say I'm very very impressed with it. We have the XS model and its got a great finish to it and it not too bad on fuel 35mpg on short runs and 39 mpg on a motorway.

The wife's happy too ! Everyone's a winner!

Just bought Free Lander Si4S in Poland - spec is pretty good for this model, leather, electric everything etc. etc.) Tried the diesel and petrol Evoque but just too uncomfortable for the unforgiving roads in Poland.
Very impressed with the new 2.0 turbo engine in both cars but the FL won hands down in terms of comfort and loading capacity. When i started looking i was sure i would get an evoque but the test drives changed decision easily !! - if you remove the trendy / new / style issues and look at day to day comfort and practicality then the FL wins all the time. Would question some comments i read about good handling as it is very soft and wallowing going into corners on the brakes but then its not a sports car. Lets hope we get the reliability in the long term.

Just seen a total divvie park half on a pavement and a bit in the space in Chobham in one of these - it really was deeply painful watching 10 attempts including an attempt on a lady with pram's life!! Probably a very good car but maybe soon to be tarred with the idiot brush?

I sold a RR Sport to buy one of the first Evoque's as thought it looked good and would be a lot more economical to run, however after the novelty wore off it quickly became evident that there wasn't much more than a 10-15% difference in economy - however the Sport was so much more comfortable, spacious, and regal to drive (effortless push and air suspension) that it didn't long to decide to dispose of the Evoque and buy another Sport.

The evoque has a boot the size of a ford focus, awful rear visibility, a fairly nasty 4 pot 2.2 diesel engine and in higher spec versions a price that would put you in to a much nicer year to 18 month old range rover.

Agree on the higher spec stuff - it really seems madly priced and, surely, a recipe for eyewatering depreciation.

The 'boggo' Pure has most of the toys you could sensibly want for a bread-and-butter, day-to-day car and, as I've said previously, is (or was) comparable in price to a simialrly-equipeed (but far more ubiquitous) BMW 3 series. But paying over £40k and even £50k for what is, at the end of the day, a 4 cyl diesel car is daft IMHO.

Agreed, however I bought a Diesel Jeep Patriot (VW engine, later ones Merc Diesel engines) as a cheap run around a couple of years back and if anything its a bit bigger and more functional than the Evoque with better ride and handling thats not that far off. Bit boxing looking, but its functional. I think the Jeep's parts bin raiding extends to the front seats which are incredibly similar again to a VW Golf GTI / Audi Sport set and overall make it a comfortable place to be for long periods of time and with them selling for £8-£10k for a relatively new one (2-3 years old and 30k miles) - it makes the £40-45k price tag on some Evoque models appear bonkers.

Edited to add, it also did 49 mpg on a Motorway run - or around 33% more than I experienced with my 2.2 evoque.

LR certainly seem to have achieved unfeasibly poor fuel economy from a 2.2 engine. Unfortunately. rolleyes

Ignoring the pejorative overtones, is there actually anything wrong with having a car that is 'style over substance'. Haven't there actually been many supercars that could really be exactly the same and which would be lauded as a petrolhead's car?

I quite like the look of the Evoque - even though I think it is way too expensive - and they turn my head when I see one. Rather nice.
