there's a few Silverstone ones knocking around, all in the phase1 shape (rectangle fogs) but once they'd screwed them around as demo cars for a couple of years, they re-registered them all on newer T reg's. queue hysteria when people see T-reg'd old shape ones

£300 it sounds like it needs some work to say the least!

I so regret selling my Rallye 3 years ago. I wish I had it as a hobby/weekend car.

T172 EAG where are you now?

Great cars, easy to work on and fantastic fun to drive!

Not a fan of that colour, but i still think the 306 is a great looking car today. Turning circle of a battle ship though.
True. Prepare for horn-honking and eye-rolling as you look like a total learner driver in car parks/at mini roundabouts!

Who is your insurance with?

The biggest problem with these cars now is that half of them are either badly modded, or dinked/damaged.

Even when I was looking for mine in 2005 most of the ones I went to see were damage/repaired or had dodgy service histories etc.

Great cars really, just for me insurance was a complete joke at the time for what it was. It wasn't really THAT fast, THAT dangerous or anything...

Right few thinks to say as since my departure theres been the odd piece of poorly informed bs.

Right, The book time is 8.3 seconds to 60.
HOWEVER. This time was recorded fully laden with passengers, which is why its insurance qoutes come out quite low in comparison to its peers.

Its ACTUAL 0-60 times are as follows

Rallye:6.9
Phase 1 (probably quicker than a rallye as its even lighter, but for arguements sake.)6.9
Phase 2/3 :7.2
All of the above are times that EVO Magazine confirm in the back page of EVERY issue.
Seeing as EVO recorded times for each car individually.
Its 0-100 is something like 19.2 for a Rallye.

Also a 172 doesnt destroy it in 0-100 as thats just silly rubbish.
It only has 3hp more for a start, is one gear less and is lighter granted.
Theres almost nothing in it.

To the bloke comparing people whinging about the BRZ/GT86's power I have the follwoing points to make.
Mainly,
A) this car was first made in 1996.
The BRZ came out this year. Thats 16 years my friend, so hardly a fair basis of comparison.

B) The GTi-6 is a hot hatch. The BRZ is a Rear wheel drive coupe.

C)Rear wheel drive cars are faster off the line anyway so I would imagine that when rolling a GTi-6 would probably be pulling away seeing as given all of its 197hp a GT86 has no more torque than a GTi6.

Why am I even talking about this though. In my eyes, both this and the GT86 have the same basic reason for existance.
Outright power or handling aside they are both (I will admit i havent driven a gt86 but from what i have read) Drivers cars that celebrate FUN and handling and perhaps most importantly, feel.

Different company every year, best on money supermarket, then with cashback get closer to £270.

Passed my ARDS test in one at Silverstone in 1995. Good times, I remember the instructor/examiner commenting 'you'll find this quite tail happy'. Just a bit thought I, like a very poor mans TVR. biggrin

Sitting somewhere with tax on the window until the end of January 2013!
Was it imported - or why the 'first registered in 2007' honour? EDIT - MAN306R?! IOM import!

Great car (wrong colour though, really not a fan).

I always wanted a GTI-6... but due to cost ended up with a 1.6! I still think they look good, and handled really well too. Shame about the typical notchy Peugeot gearchange and flaky electrics.

Of course not. But loads will still have been crashed by mugs with an inflated perception of their ability. My MR2 Turbo was as cheap as chips to insure, despite being pretty fast and challenging to get the best from (read: easily binned if you push to hard or fk up). But I guess with relatively few on the roads and relatively few having been crashed it's a bit of an 'inside secret'!

That said, some potential buyers couldn't get insurance on it when I was selling mine so YMMV.

Thats an excellent example of what makes the car great. Not a great big lairy slide ending up with a loss of momentum - just a bit of trail braking, loose back end, steering from the rear - brilliant.
