RE: SOTW: Peugeot 306 GTI6
Discussion
At least 2 of these SOTWs about the 306 GTI-6 make a comment in the main article that "galvanising wasn't part of the plan". This is incorrect - my 306 Rallye certainly is galvanised. The paint lifting on the wheel arch edges clearly shows grey zinc oxide underneath, and the rust does not appear until all the zinc has been used up. The chassis rails under the floor are not galvanised, but most of the rest of it is definitely galvanised, including the external panels.
I have found the 306 more rust resistant than expected. Even under the wings where they meet the sills is only a little bit of surface rust - not bad for the abuse of 13 salty winters.

That 0-100 time cant be right?
Over 20secs is an age.
I think the official times are generally regarded as totally wrong. 0-60 definitely isn't anywhere near 8.5 seconds.Over 20secs is an age.

Why wouldn't 20 seconds be correct though, it is after all a 1200+ KG car with 167 bhp, it's not exactly a rocketship. A Clio 172 (1035 kg, 165 bhp) does it in about 18 so that would be about right.
Seems about right to me - even a rwd coupe with the same power is only a second or so quicker - that would probably be a bit quicker off the line PhillipM said:
The dampers are remarkably well thought out for a cheap production twin tube unit, they have internal droop springs and hydraulic bumpstops along with a floating divider piston as standard. 95% of cars out there since then still don't have those.
Hey mate, I know I’m responding to a 10 year old thread, but could you explain what internal droop springs are? I’ve never heard of them. Cheers!PhillipM said:
