Why hide something good? Would you put a Citizen watch face on Rolex mechanicals?
Wouldn't rule it out.

A few years ago I put a spare Rolex movement I had lying around into a fake Rolex, for amusement value.

I'd enjoy putting an MR2 body onto a 355, for instance.

Am I the only one who struggles to grasp the concept that Audi's are stealthy?

The moment you see the LED fairy lights approaching in your rear view mirror you know it's most likely to be an Audi and whether it be a diesel or petrol they are typically quite 'quick' in any flavour.

Stealthy to me would be a car from a range of other cars which are invariably dull, slow and common eco-hatches but with a much more sporty underpinning.

Audi is a premium brand, it doesn't really fit into the stealth category in my opinion. The RS models do because they take their fight to a much higher level of supercar-baiting.

And in answer to the OP's question, the A3 3.2 Q is up there.

Most of the other cars mentioned are the fast version of a car where everyone specs the mundane versions to look like the fast version, so for example an actual M Car doesn't count as it appears fast and is fast where as most of its lesser siblings look fast but are not, which isn't a Q car.

Q cars should be fast but look innocuous. Quad pipes are not innocuous!

There is a 3.2 A3 that lives round the corner from me, no body kit, small alloys (for an Audi) silver 3dr, looks EXACTLY like the 1.6 version a girl at work drives.

There used to be an E34 M5 that drove around south northants with a 518 badge on the back, always brought a smile to my face, but still looked like an M5.

Passat W8 is quite fast and looks extremely mundane......you could even stick steelies on it if you could be bothered for the full minicab look!

I like this one. Will look just like a 118d but have over 400hp with a couple of mods. Imagine SE bumpers and 17" alloys hehe would scare a few people

Really? The mahosive wheels/brakes and drain pipes for exhausts surely give it away somewhat...

Anyone remember the Maxpower craze for sticking a redtop Turbo into a boggo looking White Nova with black bumpers and police issue black steelies?

Neither did I until I followed one in Cambridge over the weekend, even more of a surprise when the blue lights came on and he pulled a Range Rover!

I'm sorry I just can't believe that. It looks about 4 tonne. To make that get to 60 in 4.8 seconds would require it to be dropped off a cliff.

Not the most refined of machines (as I understand it) but it is thunderously quick (in a straight line) for what it is; typical of most big SRT-engined machinery. That said, it ain't stealth.

Legacy Spec B, 95 Aeros, R36s, E60 550i etc are where the stealth is at. Saying an M5 is stealth just because it has the same basic shape of other 5 series is missing the point somewhat; top of the range models always have the trinkets to make it stand out (large wheels, quad pipes etc). It's just some do subtle better than others.

I can hear the depreciation on that from herelaugh

I do wonder what goes through the minds of people who come up with these cars sometimes - exactly who will a 3.6 V6 Skoda appeal to?
It will appeal to people who don't want to pay for a Passat R36 or a 3.2 V6 Phaeton.

And speaking of depreciation, it can't be any worse than the Phaeton's! 5 litre V10s go for less than 8K now. That's a lot of luxury shove for Clio money.

More over...How in any description can an SRT Jeep with 22" rims in drug dealer Black be described as stealthy?

I don't know about the latest ones but for most of the 2000s the T5 was treated by Volvo as little more than another engine option, meaning you could have up to 260bhp in something externally indistinguishable from a bog-basic model.

Particularly effective on S40s (99% of S40 T5s seem to have been specified as an 'S' in burgundy), where not only do small wheels and flat paint suggest a wheezy old small petrol beneath the bonnet, but even the T5 badge itself looks like "1.6" from a distance.

(Admittedly we're only talking contemporary hot hatch performance rather than something special, but when most people see the car and expect a hat-wearing procession leader unable to get above 20mph...)

Stealthy because exactly how many people would think a flippin great 4x4 would be that quick.

Make no mistake this is one rapid vehicle. To give it some perspective, if you pulled out onto a stretch of dual carriageway in a Ferrari F355 and floored it, if the chap behind you in this Jeep did the same you'd watch as he trundled past your Italian supercar.

@ Julian

It manages the 0-60mph time through having AWD, huge wide tyres and an auto gearbox. Combined with massive power and just as much torque. This means you sit and hold it on the foot brake and floor the throttle, giving consistent and hugely fast 0-60mph sprints.

My stealth car nomination is a golf v6 4motion. Subtle looks, this is the golf r32's little brother but almost as quick. can embaress many more expensive cars especially in the wet or from a standstill-the 4wd provides plenty of traction and the v6 howl sounds great on WOT. Can be bought and upgraded to be faster/better than the r32 for less money.
