Which "stealth" fast car ?

Looks pretty stealthy to me considering what it's kicking out. I would never expect it to be as quick as I'm sure it is.
I remember pulling up at a set of lights and a really knackered looking corsa on steel wheels pull up next to me with a couple of young lads in it grinning. As soon as they revved it and it shook and the dump valve went pssssht I realised why they were grinning. Took a few seconds to get going but when it did it took off like a stabbed rat (I had a slightly modified ST24 at the time).
I remember an old corsa matching me through 3rd and into 4th on the M1 near Sheffield one time when I was in my old 911 (which was good for nearly 190mph) it did make me chuckle, but he was a bit serious about the whole thing. Mercedes E500 Estate. Only available in LHD as far as I can tell.
408 HP, 600 NM from a twin-turbo V8. 0-60 in 5'ish seconds.
It's indistinguishable from an E220.
They don't make them (at least in the uk) like that anymore.

Also have a relation with a mid 90s astra with a 2.5 V6 (probably from a Vectra) in it.....he goes through tyres like no ones business....
I have an SL55 AMG with 550bhp and a 911 turbo, neither go through tyres "like no ones business". At a guess, he probably drives like a prat spinning his wheels everywhere. Some of these suggestions are poor! A bog standard low end rep car or cold hatch with a somewhat more powerful than standard engine does not make a stealthy fast car!
As mentioned on this thread numerous times, something like an E55 AMG is stealth. It looks like an E350 CDI sports bar the two extra exhausts, and believe me, nobody knows what the hell they are.
I surprised the hell out of a couple of Ferraris, Porsches and numerous scoobies, evos etc. in my old car, especially whilst the V8 Kompressor badges were removed.
That is a sleeper! Not an astra with a 2.5 V6 that's probably no quicker than a modern hot hatch.

Anyone mentioned the S40 T4 yet? many of these produced a fair bit more than the Volvo claimed 200bhp as standard.
0-60 in 6.7 seconds, 150mph - Looks near enough standard apart from the small spoiler and the massive oval exhaust - even the alloys look like wheel trims.
I was speaking to a bloke a little while ago who had one of these in estate form. I remarked to him that you don't see many of them around, it transpired he'd bought it from auction. It used to belong to Lothian and Borders police. He said it was a cracking car. I recall a PH'er having a nice blue saloon one that he reckoned would challenge a WRX in a straight line.0-60 in 6.7 seconds, 150mph - Looks near enough standard apart from the small spoiler and the massive oval exhaust - even the alloys look like wheel trims.

Much depends on what type of car user; their values and viewpoint.0-60 in 6.7 seconds, 150mph - Looks near enough standard apart from the small spoiler and the massive oval exhaust - even the alloys look like wheel trims.
In my experience, that's one of the few actual stealth cars mentioned on this thread.
The way many car consumers see things, as opposed to car the enthusiasts viewpoint, ALL BMWs, AUDIs, Mercedes and Diesels are fast so few if any of those will be considered stealth. Rightly or wrongly.
There again another well known fact. All Rovers are slow and are driven by the aged. One or two contributors on this "stealth" thread have reinforced this widespread myth. With that in mind when I deploy the abilities of this good old boy, I never tire of seeing the look of surprise on the faces of those who believe they are driving 'superior' means of getting about because of the badge. Like the 330ci driver who pulled up alongside me one time and asked what I had done to the car that it should go so well. I suspect he did not believe me when I told him it was a bog standard 620ti and simply well maintained.
The car usually has plain silver standard ti six spoke alloy wheels in silver but in winter, on go these white wheels with Rainsports.
Now in my view, that's a stealth car.
Stealthy in much the same way as the mobile plod in a plain clothes Bee-em who stopped me in the small hours stating "You were a bit brisk there Sir" .... that has happened to me on more than one occasion. A brisk Rover must be up to no good ... or maybe they wanted someone to talk to in the small hours and tick a box on their worksheets. Yeah, that's it ...
There again, maybe I have misunderstood and failed miserably to grasp this stealth thing ..

One further- the 800 in champagne gold with the same engine!
The Rover 800's were good cars. Was it the 820ti the police used to use?Yes, ten odd years ago I had a Vitesse Sport ( 820 turbo ) and it had the Legend RECARO on both front seats. The design and materials used looks very similar/identical to the seats in my current DD Rover 620ti which do not have the legend RECARO in bright red on them. These cars have the Rover T-Series in turbocharged form.
There were about 500 "Tickford" Rover 800s made IIRC. These cars had a Turbocharged M-Series engine.

CLK 55 AMG
That. Or a CLK 500. 99% of the performance, but looks no different from a 200 Kompressor. My old one was c. 350bhp and pulled to 62 in 5.5 seconds or something silly like that. However, it was the mid range from 30 - 1XX that was mind blowing. It just pulled like a train right the way through the gearbox with no let up whatsoever. It was certainly a lot quicker than the Audi I replaced it with.Edited by schmalex on Tuesday 20th November 21:56

Blimey! 4.5s in estate form that's indeed stealth and fast. That's almost as quick as my M3. Is that an XDrive too?
It's quicker than my old m3 best I got from that was 5.3 (too much wheel spin in launch control) yes xdrive hence the good 0-60. Wills2 said:
Not a patch on the M3 though in terms of drama/sense of occasion and generally being great to drive.
It's those traits that make it a great Q car as you get an iron fist in a beige cotton glove, even the driver doesn't realise how quick it is.
I'm not knocking it BTW it's great at what it does.

1400kg and 210bhp makes it a bit slower than the not seriously rapid Fiesta ST
Except its also kicking out between 450-500nm of torque....Took on a corsa VXR....bloke couldn't shake matey off...and he was wasn't exactly driving slow..., was quite shocked when he was told it was a 1.9 diesel....Could be above 220 now as its running straight through pipes as well as a few other trick bits...

They're hilarious. I've put 30K on mine since I bought it and it has been great. Easy to get 32+mpg if you take it easy and also puts quite a few modern cars to the sword if you put your foot down. Decent front tyres are a must as is keeping the suspension in semi decent shape, it's easy enough as parts are dirt cheap. My shed has been great so far. Anonymous, quick(ish), leather and a bit quirky.
All this Volvo talk reminded me about the Volvo S60R... was really keen on this car few years ago.
