Which "stealth" fast car ?
Discussion
Why do people want a stealth car?
To surprise other people in street races? Does anyone actually street race in the UK, surely one of the worst and least appropriate countries in the world for doing so. Why not just have a car that people already know the specs of so you win without having to even race.
Or is it to avoid the attention of a 'flashy' high-powered car? If so why not just buy a big diesel model rather than trying to hide away your V8 - do you also drive it gently the whole time so no-one hears and realises what it is?
I do not see the point of wanting a fast car to not look like a fast car, or rather ... I do not see the point of actively trying to hide the fact that it is a fast car.

Not very fast, or powerful really is it when most diesels can do that.
+1That car was posted before in this thread but it was deleted by the time I commented. Probably on par with most 2 litre diesels, even a 1 litre 3 cylinder fiesta does 0-60mph in 7 seconds.
GTI edition 30
Reasonably good looking and will still look good in 10 years time
Remap up to 350bhp with a few mods.
Pretty good at long distance touring providing you don't need estate space
Cheapish to insure.
Looks like a normal golf with nice wheels.
Will do sub 5 seconds to 60 and do 170 on the clocks.

Can a 1 litre fiesta do 0-60 in 7 seconds? I would love to see where you got the figures from, can you post a link as I would be interested in buying one, must be an amazing engine, I wonder why ford bothered fitting the 1.6 turbo to the st to achieve a reported 6.9 0-62 when all they had to do was fit the 1 litre and get similar performance, bloody manufacturers taking us for a ride. Shocking.
Sure, my source was Pistonheads:http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/f...

Edit: Having checked AT and Whatcar, it seems PH is wrong so therefor I am too. I retract my statement about the fiesta doing 0-60 in 7 sec. But nonetheless, that Passat is definitely not a stealth car.

Personally no modern BMW or Audi could be considered stealth. All of the models they produce can look very similar externally, depending on how the 1st owner specs it. For that reason, when I see one, I do not presume it is a base model or an M or S model. Today for example a M135i passed me, closely followed by a 120d. They looked pretty much exactly the same.
BM and Audi drivers (rightly or wrongly) have a fairly big reputation for being aggressive so none would be a surprise being driven quickly. Stealth, nope, never.
I now have my dads 2005 Volvo S60 T5. It is in 'lunar gold' which is truly dull, and would only be specced by someone over 60. 17" alloys. It looks 'nice' but in no way a road warrior. Now running 320bhp after a basic remap. It is not uber quick but is ultimately a lot quicker than it looks and people expect, which to me, is what makes it stealth.
The later 2.4 T5 engine like mine is stronger than the 2.5 in the equivalent R, responds better to remapping and being only FWD is quite a bit lighter than the 4WD R. In a straight line, on the move, the T5 is quicker, although it is still a bit of a wallower in the bends. Stealth, but ultimately I wonder if stealth makes for a bit of a one trick pony. Stealth cars will likely not look all that exciting, and being stealth, not likely to be a focussed performance car, so often a bit of blunt instrument. Performance through lightweight always excites me more.
Stealth = cutting your nose off to spite your face?!

Oh my sweet potato...
Take the badges off and nobody would know. (I have selected the estate as it, in my opinion, looks better than the saloon/hatch.
Shame it's no longer based on an Audi platform. 4.2 V8 anyone?
ETA: I now want to build a torsen quattro 4.2 V8 Skoda Superb B5.
Alas, I have a distinct lack of time, money, and most importantly, skills.
"......shame it's not an Audi platform". Are there specific Audi plarforms or simply detail variants of VAG platforms ? VAG, after all, are the masters of sharing the engineering bits.Oh my sweet potato...
