The lairy car that they ran at Bonneville salt flats didn't have a great deal more power than this, and that was good for 225mph.
To be fair the car at Bonneville was tuned within an inch of it's life, had masses of aerodynamic changes and loads of weight in the boot to get grip on the salt.Significantly changed from the road car.
That's hardly "tuned within an inch of its' life" for something you can buy retail with a warranty if you're willing to have it with about 10% less power.
All they did to the driveline was change the supercharger somewhat (higher boost, changed pulleys) and reflash the ECU to cope with it. The gearbox and diff were unaltered, as were the tyres (Gentilozzi was unable to use full power up to 150mph because the rear was spinning up the wheels). At 225mph, the rear wheels were still experiencing 6% wheelslip due to the salt not being the grippiest substance in the world.
The majority of the modifications were safety related and aerodynamic.
If you can be bothered, go read about it here: http://www.jaguar.com/gl/en/experience/jaguar_maga...
The stated objective was to use a production car for the record.

I wish Jaguar would pull their socks up. Their top performance models have been lagging at the back of the field for a few generations now. This performance would have put jaguar on the map in 2000 but today it's going to disappear into the mists.
A mercerdes rivalling 600hp, 200mph super saloon would have had the press talking and order books filling.
Jaguar used to be about engineering achievements. The fastest in class, the gentleman's rocket sled.
This trend of producing yet another marketing variation, slower than the benchmark m5 that leads the way in absolutely nothing is getting tedious.
Judging by the reviews of the XJ SS handling though, they are still about engineering achievements. Surely its not all about power? A mercerdes rivalling 600hp, 200mph super saloon would have had the press talking and order books filling.

2nd teaser pic released on Jag's Facebook page:
Can't wait for this car, I love the XKR-S and this just seems even cooler...
Aw, that wing killed it! Can't wait for this car, I love the XKR-S and this just seems even cooler...
It was looking mean in the first shot. No wings on Jags please!
(And THAT colour! )
Uberperformance saloons should be wingless imo.

One question..
How does it sound so "burbly" when it is running at very high RPMS?
When you see/hear the Audi S4/RS4 v8's for example at high RPMS, they appear to be screaming their nuts off.
