Jag are trying to attract younger buyers these days so the fact that this doesn't interest gentlemen and the fact that the XJSS still does, is a win win really.
Actually apologies to ptiOne to many botles of red at a long lunch.
I guess with an XJSS i can get a driver too !

I wish Jaguar would pull their socks up. Their top performance models have been lagging at the back of the field for a few generations now. This performance would have put jaguar on the map in 2000 but today it's going to disappear into the mists.
A mercerdes rivalling 600hp, 200mph super saloon would have had the press talking and order books filling.
Jaguar used to be about engineering achievements. The fastest in class, the gentleman's rocket sled.
This trend of producing yet another marketing variation, slower than the benchmark m5 that leads the way in absolutely nothing is getting tedious.
Judging by the reviews of the XJ SS handling though, they are still about engineering achievements. Surely its not all about power? A mercerdes rivalling 600hp, 200mph super saloon would have had the press talking and order books filling.

50 years ago a sport saloon would have 100hp and do low 20's mpg at best. The latest M5 weight probably exactly double, is 10 times more comfortable and has 560 hp averaging he same mpg.
If I could half those diferences and have a daily driver with 1250hp that did 30mpg.. I'd be joining the long queue.
The jaguar however forwards ths progression by less than zero.

Jaguar have never been able to better the M5, even though they release their attempt a good while after the release of the BMW. Maybe with the artificial feel of F10 and that bks of a gearbox, they might have a chance -- why can't BMW just stick a f'ing manual in the big barge, then nothing could compare.
Define "better" - I'd sooner have the current XFR than any of the German rivals. When you get to this stage, 500bhp vs 560bhp makes fk all odds on the road - it's more about how it makes you feel. In the Jag you're a gentleman or (better) a cad. In an M5 you're a pushy twunt executive. And it's probably grey.TA14 said:

surely if it were being pitted against the M5 it'd have more doors? M6, I can see.

As for David Niven - I'll take that; he DID play Bond...
Such a shame. At a stroke Jaguar will have alienated about 50% of their potential customers with the ill advised addition of that ludicrous rear wing.
Even if it's a deletable option I imagine that some customers will not wish to be even associated with a car that is so un-Jaguar. May even affect sales of more mainstream XFs.
Who do think their untapped market is? Subaru drivers?

With all due respect, I think you're talking out of your ass.Even if it's a deletable option I imagine that some customers will not wish to be even associated with a car that is so un-Jaguar. May even affect sales of more mainstream XFs.

You really think this will affect sales of other Jags? I just really hope they make an XFR Sportbrake. Then I can picture my ideal 2-car garage being an XFR-S Sportbrake and an F-Type V8S. Yum.
