RE: Spotted: Jensen SV8
Discussion
Not directly related, but are Noble building/selling any cars these days? Seems to have gone very quiet.
And how about Perana? They were supposed to have a V8 sportscar out a couple of years back?

As ever, it looks like tough times for the specialists with better and better cars from the big name manufacturers.

Parked in the underground garage. It is both mint (despite being covered in dust from not being used, and brown. Which makes it perfect. For the same price as its ugly son as featured in this thread, get a good one and put a modern GM LS V8 and gearbox into it.

Given that I drive a Morgan Aero 8, and thus have a penchant for "interestingly" styled British machinery, that S-V8 still looks awful A bit slow too - I think it had the 90's Mustang's pushrod 4.6 V8, with about 240bhp?
Also, £35k? Not when that buys you a (Grade A condition) TVR Griffith LE, and £20k buys you an excellent late Griff 500. True modern British classics, as opposed to the Jensen. God, £35k buys you a good Series 1 Morgan Aero 8 for that matter - I owned one before my Series 2, and, poor brakes aside, it's the car I've loved the most. I've never driven anything short of a bona fide supercar that feels such an event to drive.
The point is that £35k buys you a lot of good, non-depreciating British metal (or fibreglass). The S-V8 just doesn't really cut it in that company.

Awful design and awful panel gaps. Look at the way the line on the bottom of the front light cluster misses the slash down the quarter; that has to be getting on for 20mm. If that's intentional, then it's even worse. It looks like a poorly made kit car. Actually, no, it looks like a one off sports car someone made during a mid life crisis. The wheels are almost in board of the body and look at the metal on the centre console! All of it is unforgivable.
Any 2 seater roadster is brutally fast with a V8 in it.
£10 million isn't much to develop a car though so I don't blame anyone that worked on it too much really.

I have always wanted to really like these as I love Interceptors and FFs. I just couldnt live with the styling, especially the panel gaps which I think are the worst I have ever seen. Would rather have an MG SVR if I were in the market or an unusual British car.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that the SV8 was originally going to be badged as an Austin Healey but here were problems with using the name. In my eyes at least it looks a bit more like a Healey than a Jensen.

The photo though is not of an unreliable, poor economy, asthmatic V8 (it only had 272bhp when new) Interceptor. It's a conversion by Cropredy Bridge Jensen. A Jensen Inteceptor S, which has a 430bhp Chevrolet LS2 plus better brakes, suspension, gearbox and more - http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/2176...
You would need to sell a kidney though as it's £75,000 but the running costs will be less than an original [/quote
Earlier Interceptors have 325 BHP engines. They are quite quick.

your right ref panel gaps - a few years ago i looked at one for sale at Oselli, and was horrified by the crap build quality - i initially thought it had been smacked and repaired very badly - but after a bit of research realised they were made like that and in fact they make a land rover defenders panel gaps and build quality look lexus like !
Quite frankly the car is disgusting and whoever signed the design off must have been an absolute numpty. Clearly the design is the most important part of any sports car and this one didn't even get anywhere near the target. I think the investors who lost their money can't blame anyone but themselves for getting involved with such an appalling concept. I remember seeing it at the motorshow and telling the managing director on the stand that it would fail if they launched it with such appalling details around the front and rear lights . He insinuated that I didn't know what I was talking about. Hmmm the guy clearly hadn't got a clue and got his just desserts.
