Front fog light? I think it was one of those tiny cameras stuck to the bumper.

I don't usually comment on things like this but thought I would share my opinion and view on the subject.

Was I the only one who thought that all these sounded rubbish, all you get is a loud whoosh and that's it! The ST sounded the better of the trio with that intake system but that still sounded st to me. I know people don't buy these on the sound they make but whatever happened to nice sounding cars? and yes I know I am spoilt with one of the best sounding engines made by man biggrin

If you're going to get an ST, make sure it's black or dark blue. Maybe even red. That Mango colour however is an abomination.

I think I'd avoid a new Megane RS 265, Renault will probably bring out a couple more 'limited editions' of the Megane, and it's looking rather long in the tooth really. The VXR has the best balance in terms of looks, but it's still a bit of a fatty.

As for price, you could get a good discount on a demo or pre-registered car from Vauxhall or Renault. But then, why not just forgo the whole depreciation thing altogether and buy a clean Focus RS. I know you can't compare new with used and all that crap people spout on about on here, but in the real world it would be the safer bet.

The Focus may be close in RRP to the BMW however

a - for that money you get a stload of toys the BMW doesn't have
b - no-one - and I mean NO-ONE - pays RRP on Fords

The real gap between those 2 cars is probably more like £5-6K - add on the higher fuel and maintenance costs on the BMW and you'll make-up for the crushing depreciation on the ST smile

started to drift off to this vid, a bit to long and repetitive for me

the focus, hmm, i certainly don't want a car that's just "nice" especially as chris likes soft riding cars and i don't, worst of it looks so bloody awful

driven the megane, don't like it

i would take the VXR as it looks really good, did i just say i would take a vauxhall!!! what has the world come to frown

PH members have been reporting 10% of the BMW, I would sacrifice toys for a vastly faster and better built car, with far more badge prestige and having the proper wheels driven, i wouldn't pay £10 for a car as ugly as the ford vomit

Nice video!

Would probably chose the megane, looks nice and special, and is an aboslute peach on track. I really adore the way you can adjust the car with the throttle when your at the limit, pure fun!

Wouldnt mind any of the other 2 either though. But for me there is a fundamental problem with these kind of cars. They are too expensive for just using them on road(at least since they arent THAT special), and you cant exploit the performance. If you mostly run on track they are a lot of money to lose if you crash it, and a light older rwd car will be more fun (although maybe not faster), especially on smaller tracks. Hmm...

Regarding the megane at least, its been proven to be very tough. I fellow board memeber from a swedish board lives near nurburgring and drives it at insane speeds (around the 8m mark BTG), and he has been doing that for a year or two every now and then (year card)without any problems. Seems very well screwed together..

don't talk crap, its my opinion based on what i would do, you are allowed to come to your own conclusion its not compulsory to fawn at every word monkey says you know (he does get it wrong a lot after all)

and the ST focus (front) is one of the ugliest cars in production atm

Take a second to read my previous car history. Lets look shall we? Oh yes, an RS Megane owned for 2 years, and a member of Meg sport. I had a member do all the maintenance on the car, and even he said as a Renualt employee he'd never have another megane.
I spent 2k on repairs in 18 months. Let alone servicing. Clios appear to last slightly better, it has to be said, but I'd never own another. Mine was @ 18k miles to 44k.

Great video yet again smile Chris Harris was a great "signing" for PistonHeads.
Yarp - agree with that. There is definitely a place for these more detailed rounded and in depth reviews than the likes of Top Gear provide. Chris has lucid and reasonable take on cars that resonates for me in his commentary. I am not in the market for a hot hatch, but if I were this video would influence me, though perhaps in the direction of a M135 :-)

Not at all. Dave is bang on the money. In fact there's 13% going off the BMW. Your 'toys' in the Ford will be worth next to nothing come resale whereas good options in the BMW are far more attractive to buyers. Expect to lose a heck of a lot more cash in the first year of ownership with your 'loaded' Ford than with a reasonably specced BMW. Finally, there's a reason why Evo COTY have the BMW up against the new 911.

Don't bother taking the bait, just enjoy your 200. I don't think Renault will ever lose the bad reputation for it, so I'm just going to worry about myself and enjoy mine.
Enjoy your 200, but remember to chop it in for something newer when the warranty runs out. I've read enough tales of woe over on the RS forum regarding 197's and Twingo 133's to know that you buy a Renaultsport with complete disregard for build quality after you've racked up some miles and only really choose one for the chassis. Just ignore the squeaky seats, brakes, pedal, dash...etc etc. I don't think I've ever seen a forum quite like Renaultsport, where owners constantly change their cars after such short periods of ownership. A combination of getting bored, easy finance I think and an addiction to buying something shiny and new.

I do find the current upward trend of the list price concerning. Only 10 years ago I bought my Type R. Sub £20k all seemed like reasonable value. A whisker from £30k just doesn't seem like good value to me.

Great video, Chris. Looking at how much these FWDbarges cost, the M135i looks the bargain of the century.
