We have one, fitted by a company from Washington iirc.
I think most of the companies tend to be local rather than nationwide.
I have been happy with the one we have, not overly complex and can be a diy fix if it goes wrong.

Can I ask how much it cost you? I assume it's a normal garage width door?

I had a Hormann roller door fitted - wide single garage. Cost me £1200 with the remotes. Works fine, doesn't leak, and just about totally windproof. Insulated, so the garage stays fairly warm with heat from the boiler.

You need to speak to South Coast PHer thedoorman, he runs http://www.prestigegaragedoors.co.uk/

He might not be able help due to out of area, but probably will be able to give advice on brands/types etc.

Whatever you do, DON'T buy a thermaglide door. Absolutely horrific product with a significant design flaw which means the "lockstraps" break continually. You need to replace them every 6-9 months at a cost of £40 each - I have 7 on a 5m wide door, so you add it up. The company have been very poor at dealing with the issue and offer no assistance now on cost and my door is only 5 years old now.

Same here. Mine was a bit more as I needed an extra wide one. But motors, fitting etc was pretty good price overall. The bloke who did mine runs a company called "Brians Well Hung Doors", which I think is great. Did a great job and really pleased. Nice action, works well and well insulated and secure. Electric garage doors - best money I spent in a while! Why I didnt get one sooner I never know.

Only thing to note is that some fcensoredr tagged mine. What possesses these moronic idiots to do this is beyond me. Is this like a dog pissing to mark its territory? Well its not theirs, its MINE! Anyway, cleaning is a bit of a pain. Officially the manufacturer says DONT use chemicals as it could take the pigment out of the plastic (mine is red). They suggest hot water, soap and a non-abrasive pad - which oddly seems to work, albeit slowly. You can replace the slats one by one, but they are expensive. Just warning.

Completely agree.... Suffered exactly the same.

The way in which we olved this was to replace the orginal rubbish locking straps with those fom SWS ltd who manufacture Electroglide doors. The locking straps are metal and the collars are too which go around the axle. Cost 230 to replace and fit these and have never had an issye since,

Thedoorman on here us a really good chap to talk to..... He helped me out.

Very interesting - just replaced 4 this week, but next time (which won't be far away) I'll give this a try.

I've just had a couple of Thermaglide white straps fail this morning! Any chance of you PMing the details of the supplier of the metal collars and straps - if I'm going to replace them (there's seven on my door) then I may as well get them done properly!

Thanks

Resurrecting an old thread.

We have a roller garage door - aluminium slats filled with foam.

Its been fitted since July last year. In August The door wouldn't open - noticed all the garage door straps had broken. We had all the straps replaced for a cost of £100.

Whilst opening the door today I heard a crashing sound and saw one strap had broken again.

There are a total of 7 straps. Having looked on ebay straps are around £10 each.

as per the posts above - anyone know of better quality (metal???) door straps?

Thanks

Seeing as the door is only just over a year old I'd expect the warranty to cover this? Or even the warranty on the replacement lockstraps. I certainly got a few from Cardale on this basis (as I bloody well should!).

In any case my long-term solution was to replace the breaking straps with a length of nylon rope. I drilled a hole in the top of the door and another one in what was left of one of the lockstraps and tied it with just the correct amount of tension - been working brilliantly, and longer than the plastic lockstraps ever did.
