What we are all hoping for

RWD, manual gearbox, tuned 5 pot pushing out 400bhp, 1200kg weight, £45k

What we'll get

Haldex 4WD, Steptronic gearbox, 1500kgs, chintzy carbon fibre bodykit, £85k
This is the all new TT they are talking about - not a tarted up version of the existing car.
There is no way they'd allow the all new car to be heavier that the current TT.
It will almost certainly have the S-Tronic gearbox but if you've driven the latest one in the revised R8 then you'll know that isn't bad thing - there has not been a single bad review about the new R8 with S-Tronic gearbox.
Chinzy carbon fibre bodykit? Quite possibly.

It will be either a tonne and a half or the price of an R8. Pointless either way.

I'm guessing you've never driven a quattro TT

The first thing Audi need to do is come up with a 4WD system that doesn't either rely on Haldex, or in having the front differential behind the engine, making the engine into a huge metal pendulum. Even Ford managed to get the engine behind the front diff in the XR4x4 and Cosworths.

My bet is that it will be like the Focus RS, lots of rumours and speculation, then they release a 300bhp FWD machine that continues the process of diluting the brand and heritage. Very good technically, just disappointing.

JuniorJet - you have a Z4MC do you not?

Well you might be surprised to know that it has an identical 0-130mph time as the "normal" TTRS (source: Autocar road tests of both) so the RS+ (with lets face it only a minor upgrade) isn't going to be a lot quicker. Granted the M will be a bit slower on in-gear acceleration though.

Great every day a to b car.
Few choice mods help steering and feel.
But it's that engine , one of the best engines you can put in a car.
Mini r8 with that 2.5 turbo and 400bhp please

"Ford managed to put the engine behind the front diff..."
I take it that's humour, as the diff and transfer box were chain driven on the side of the gearbox which is behind the engine.
At least they were in the 2 4x4's and 1 Sapphire Coswortj I owned.
The first post nailed it for me; an adjustable Haldex controller.

So the RS sub-brand has been diluted so much that they now want to create an even higher performance range? In that case it can never cost less than the RS version of the same model, meaning it will be really, really expensive.

I think we can all agree that the TT-RS has a fantastic engine and is a quick car. Surely, just sort out the steering feel and everyone would be happy. Why do we need a complete new car and sub-brand to do that?

Is it just me or is the TT a bit girly?

Why do Audi bother, the phrase can't polish a turd comes to mind & we own a TT-S they are seriously flogging a dead horse, I just wished Audi's were as good to drive as they are to look at.

They only need to put 4wd system from r8 into it. Current TT system is just normal boring underesteering audi st.

They couldn't put the torsen in, that why they use the Haldex, the engine is the wrong way for that.

More lovely paper specs followed by more disappointment, Audi leads the world in that.

Then turn the engine or remove the front drive shafts.

as some suggested, make it Cayman style, mid-engine rear wheel drive, that might (might) do it.
+1.

If by a completely new car they mean moving the engine and using a new drive train then I'll listen.

RS brand not up to mark shocker!

I've been saying this for a while now and if RS brand had not been sold out badging all of their models then this would have been right the first time. I actually don't mind the TT RS and it's is a very responsive car with a great sounding engine but I can't help feel that is just didn't have the same charm of the RS4 B5 and RS6 C5 etc which went before it.

As said above, I would love to see a mini R8 with 350 bhp(ish) and < 1150 Kg instead.

Anyone care to elucidate why the majority of the 'best' tuned TiTties have adjustable Haldex controllers with the torque spread biased to the rear. Or am I missing something?
Certainly works in a friend-of-a-friends Octavia track car with 400bhp....
