RE: Spotted: Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution
Discussion
drove quite a few of these back in the day, used to be involved with SVA so converted many and collected them from the docks etc.
Drove several back and forth from Bristol and Newport. I personally think they're great, very retro-90's japanese crap inside, Pajero's of that age arent really a nice place to be, but the Recaros make a nice chair and the engine is a lovely thing, especially with a raspy exhaust. The most memorable one was lowered and had some chunky/dishy Work Eurolines fitted with some snarly exhaust, sounded truly demonic which went well with the looks. Have great memories of performing enormous donuts in a large car loading area in Newport in that one, like I said the engine is great fun and unusually revvy considering the bulk of the thing.
99% of them are autos (traditional cruddy autos), I did have the opportunity to drive two of the manual ones and they arent really much cop considering the seating positions, you're basically leaning down and forward when trying to change gear - it gets tedious quickly.
I always loved the looks of them, not sure I like the blingy/chavvy wheels on that white one posted up in the thread but with the right accessories (i.e rally type wheels as mentioned) they can look great i.e the other white one posted.

Motorsport-type wheels, red vinyl mudflaps and a few stickers. Who cares about mpg when it looks so cool? How much of the running gear is bespoke? Presumably the parts costs are insane?
A mate had one in the mid 90's and it was an epic bit of kit. Huge road presence, fast, ride even ok on smooth tarmac.
The thing spent a LOT of time with Mitsubishi, fixing various engine problems. We collected it from a dealer on a Friday afternoon and had to top it up with 5 litres of oil the following morning after it had burned off/leaked over a 200 mile drive!

I remember these being silly money at Japanese import auctions over here and gradually getting cheaper and cheaper until they could barely give them away!
Would love one, but not at that money
How about one of these, far more pratical but still 4 x 4
Based on an Evo with the same engine/running gear A snip at around £2500

I looked at one of these when considering replacing the Forester.
I think the look of the car is fab, driving not so fab.
I just expected a 3.5, 280bhp V6 to be faster. You really had to rev the tits off it to make progress. Handling was OK but but not a patch on the Forester.
After the test drive I realised that my car was faster, handled better and would be way cheaper to run. So I kept it
